The definitive VR Pickleball experience
Having tested several titles, Racket Club is hands down the best implementation of Pickleball in VR. The developers have mastered the feel and it works really well in MR for VR.
The game adapts brilliantly to your actual room space, meaning you aren’t constantly worried about hitting a wall. You do need a decent size play area but they have other games like box tennis if space is an issue.
The Social Aspect:
The community is fantastic. If you are in the UK or Europe, the clubs come alive in the early evenings and late at night. It is easy to find a match and the vibe is generally very welcoming. The club is a superb idea and makes for an amazing environment to meet people and find games.
Room for Growth:
While the physics are great, the pickleball single player experience is currently weak. There is no sense of progression, career mode, or tournaments to keep you hooked. For players hoping to learn pickleball before trying multiplayer it would be quite boring. Furthermore, the bots while good for warm ups seem allergic to the kitchen. As any Pickleball player knows, the kitchen is essential for strategy, and the AI’s refusal to engage there limits its use as a training tool. There is also a ball machine if you want to practice specific shots.
Verdict:
An essential purchase for Pickleball or racket sport lovers who want multiplayer , but I am hoping the developers flesh out single player pickleball . This game deserves to be huge, I hope more pickleball players find it.
