My ramblings about Superhot topics
This review used to be a 5 star. I’ve changed my mind due to the fact that (1. The game is stuck syncing and I can’t open it. (2. The recent removed self-harm scene drama.
First of all, the syncing. I was playing beat saber and I check my apps, Superhot VR says it’s syncing. This worried me due to the fact that my friend had had this problem where it was syncing and it had been doing this for a few days. Him and I have no obvious way to fix this, so I’m stuck there. I’m also pretty sure this has occurred with other people as well. You can’t open it, and if you uninstall it and reinstall, you still can’t play. Also if you restart the headset, no dice.
Second of all, as of recent, the devs have decided to remove the self harm scenes in the main campaign. This, in my opinion, is a very questionable choice because there’s a button in the settings that disables the scenes in question. This also leaves gaps in the lore and story of the game. The first removed scene is you taking your in-game life with a pistol. This happens after the first few levels. This would portray your mind being uploaded to the system slowly, and is a Segway into the next part. The second scene is the player jumping off of a few stories high window, which portrays that the player is being addicted to this game and will do anything it says. From what I can tell, this is just a questionable choice from the developers, not part of a political movement or an attack of the “snowflakes”. This choice has been made after 4-5 years of this game being out, and in a game where you take the place of a (basically) hit man who takes out near 100 red dudes throughout the game. The game ends with you “destroying the pyramid” when after you grab a pyramid and the game ends. This shows that you have succumbed to the system and will play the game over and over for eternity.
Third of all, I have been a fan of this series for years now, and I have 100% completed Superhot VR and Superhot. I love these games to death and this really has made take a look at this franchise and wonder, “Should I put my faith into a franchise that removes part of a game that millions have payed for, without any warning?” Do I think that the game should be review bombed? No, but that may be the bias talking. But, do I think this choice should be protested? Yes. This was a very dumb move by the devs.
So, reader, thank you for listening to my rambling on and on, have a nice day or evening.
