So much more than initially appears
At first it seemed like a pretty simple game, and admittedly it kind of is. But I, a grown man, managed to spend 200 hours in it so far, lol. I have technically finished it, but like all games of this style, the game being finished is more a matter of opinion.
I have played and loved games like minecraft and harvest moon, this may not be quite as elaborate as those, but it has a good mix of those elements, and what it does have works well for it. I do think eventually someone will out do this style of game in the VR space, but at the moment it's the best one.
There are some downsides, especially on the Quest or Quest 2. When animals get mad, rightfully so, they leave a little poop behind as punishment. Which honestly is a great mechanic, and initially the fact that poops can not be gotten rid of feels right. But on the Quest and Quest 2, if you have kids playing in your game, those poops can add up pretty fast. And they have some real weight. I have my own relatively clean save and that game runs flawlessly, but the kids save crashes and runs quite poorly alot of the time. The assumption I am making is that them having literally hundreds of poops is really bogging everything down. They have since grown up and play the game more responsibly and have learnt the lesson the poop system was designed to teach them. But now they have the dilemma of whether they live with their world running so poorly forever, or chuck out 2 years of building and designing their unique island.
My proposal would be a system to use hearts to clean up poop. I don't know if anyone is still in charge of working on this game, it came out quite a while ago, but if you guys can still make little changes here and there, the girls would gladly spend hundreds of hearts to make their town run better, and smell better. The nyms have all forgiven them for their earlier ways by now, I'm sure.
Might also be a good idea to have a way to see the performance impact of decorations, and maybe a little red bit of the bar for how much the poop is costing you, hehe.
And if you anyone is still working on the game, maybe another use for hearts in the end-game could be placating the Racoons. Pay them some hearts to make them feel better and convert them to normal animals, with quests where they want random food items and they'll give random decorations or something. My nieces always want to be nice to the Racoons, so they normally just let them steal food to feed their families, but stop them if they try to steal anything else.
Anyway, it's a pretty great little game. Helped teach the nieces some good stuff, looking forward to playing multiplayer with them since they will have a headset at their house soon.
