Highly recommend this game.
When playing standalone on Quest, I am someone who values optimization—how stable and smooth the game runs—far more than eye candy like how pretty the graphics look. However, the graphics of Red Matter 2 made me realize the importance of visuals to some extent. Throughout my playthrough, I felt that this level of visual quality was worth sacrificing a bit of performance for.
To be honest, the optimization of this game isn't perfect. In environments with a lot of dynamic lighting, the frame rate easily drops below 72. I felt it was a bit regrettable and wished they had limited the dynamic lighting and shadows.
But one thing is clear: the graphics are better than Red Matter 1, yet the optimization is actually much better, which was very satisfying. I played with the background music completely turned off, and the immersion of being all alone in the dead silence of space felt highly realistic and great. However, due to the nature of this type of gameplay, the replay value isn't very high. Despite the overall fantastic and wonderful experience, I don't think I will play through it a second time.
My device is the Meta Quest 3. Meta’s ongoing OS updates have made the system significantly heavier than before, and I believe this is degrading standalone game performance. Therefore, the performance baseline you used during your initial testing is likely no longer the same as what players experience today.
