Far Cry Primal vibes
This game plays very much like if Far Cry Primal were combined with a really hardcore survival game like Green Hell. I'm an IRL primitive survival expert (over 2,000 hours of IRL primitive survival camping) and this game is probably the closest thing you're going to find to the real deal. You craft things by doing abridged versions of the REAL steps to make them IRL, for example building a fire you break up sticks into smaller pieces, use a flint knife to process bark into wood fibers for a brush bundle, strike a spark into it to start the fire, add the small sticks, then larger sticks and eventually logs. If you want to make a spear that's just a sharp stick, you can use a flint knife to carve it by making the actual carving motions. Or you can make a stone spear point and lash it to a stick for an upgraded spear.
There's a bit of a supernatural element, animal spirit gods and the like, but that's what people believed in the stone age.
On harder difficulty settings, night becomes deadly and you need to huddle by the fire and keep it going. Because danger and death are waiting for you in the dark.
Hunting and processing the carcass for materials is a really nice touch, and if you're not careful you'll find that the day has gotten away from you and you've got very little time to shelter for the night, but the meat and materials from that kill are far too valuable to your survival to leave for scavengers, so you have to decide what you absolutely cannot afford to leave behind and finish processing those parts and HOPEFULLY leave yourself enough time to get back to your shelter and get a fire going to survive the night.
I wish I could give this game 10 stars instead of 5. It's the most fun I've had in a VR game in a very long time. The balance of realism and still needing to be a fun game is PERFECT.
