I guess nostalgia is important
So I see everyone going nuts about this game and I've played the first 45 minutes as someone who has never played any Resident Evil game. I think that a big part of people so excited about this is because they have played it before on flat and now want to play VR. It feels ok, but there's a massive element of it being a bit "from the past" with the audio all being looped (the sound, in general, is awful, not 360 or immersive if someone is behind you miles away it feels like they are on your shoulder, the "zombies" saying the same thing over and over, the wolf/dog with the looped bark over and over while running into the walls or just running on the spot without moving etc takes quite some realism out of it. The knife does nothing against the villagers, I don't know if that's normal or not, but you can wave the knife in their head and body and nothing happens, killing the villagers takes between 2 and 10 headshots.... If you compare this as a non-nostalgic game to Saints and Sinners, or PCVR shooters, it feels like it was made years ago. It's similar to how Arizona Sunshine feels, and stuff like "pressing buttons" to climb and appear at the top annoys me when so many games incorporate climbing into VR. Still, I'm not going to refund it, but as someone that's playing this as an independent game, and not a trip down memory lane, my first impression is it's nothing special so far... and the sound is so bad it's annoying, the weapons lack weight in the sound and the loops of the dogs and villagers and cows etc making the exact same looped noise over and over was starting to give me a headache... 4/5 is generous but I imagine I'll like it more the more I play.
