For those of us seeking nostalgia
I have come to love the indie scene. I originally was going to pass on this game in terms of something that seemed more fleshed out that my kids would enjoy. However, I am glad I didn't. For those of a certain age that grew up in the 90s, this is nostalgia heavy and is a love letter to the 90s arcade scene. The looks, feel, and music tone of the time period is there. The story, while minor, is enjoyable and has that angst teenage edge.
I love the retro style games. The music soundtrack is phenomenal! I actually may go on steam and buy the soundtrack! My one grip I found is that the VR aspect feels "shoehorned in" to say it bluntly. I didn't realize there is a flat screen version of this game and honestly without playing it it may be better than the VR. While making it somewhat more immersive the controls are clunky and the games the least viable of the arcade. Shooting mechanics are fun but rhythm and simulation aspects, especially turning knobs of any kind, are less than stellar.
Despite its shortcomings I thoroughly enjoyed this game and completed the entire thing. I will probably buy the flat screen version as well! If you're a child of the 90s this is your niche right here!
