No better option for hanging out
I used to think that it was really stupid how movies depicted businessmen constantly golfing, until I played this game. Golf allows you the perfect level of activity to encourage conversation without interfering with it. If you want to get quality time to catch up with friends, family, or even complete strangers, this is possibly the most important game you could possibly purchase.
Walkabout mini golf takes out every single inconvenience of golf, while providing a constantly increasing selection of some of the most beautiful, interesting, and conceptually eclectic courses imaginable. Never have to go chasing after a ball, never have to fish out a water hazard, always have a club that is the perfect length for you, never have to worry about someone else's ball hitting your own, never have equipment or courses that are damaged or degraded (unless they are meant to be) never worry about the weather being too hot, cold, rainy, windy, etc, never get more tired walking than you want to, all without any extra rental or ball fees, no gas costs or time spent driving, all from the comfort of your home in as little as 3x3ft of space(less if you're careful)
Through all that, walkabout's courses are constantly crushing the boundaries of what would be feasible for any mini golf course to do, and yet constantly retaining the premise of a course that COULD conceivably be navigated in reality (just not in front of my osha handbook) the base game comes with 14 incredible courses,(28 if you count the hard modes separate) and another 26+ that are roughly $4-$5 each(sales/bundles can bring that price down) this means that you could potentially sink over $100 into this game.
That sounds like a massive investment, but when you compare that to the cost of going to a single mini golf course for even just 2 or 3 people ONCE, you're looking at almost half that price just on the singular course fee alone for what are typically generic courses without any theme or story. Every single course you buy in walkabout can be shared with ANYONE you play with, and are beautifully hand crafted with a unique setting, theme, and storyline.
Each also comes with 18 custom-themed balls that are hidden like Easter eggs through the easy course, at least 1 custom putter that can be unlocked through a foxhunt in the hard course (which itself is unlocked either by scoring under par in easy mode or collecting 10 balls) and several courses have extra gimmicks, like slingshot target practice or even places to play chess.
You can play any course you own as many times as you want for no additional fee. Play 4 times, and you've basically already saved compared to going to a real world mini golf course.
The stationary vr aspect also makes it one of the most accessible vr experiences with almost zero chance of causing nausea in newer players.
There's even an "internship" program that doesn't require any of the dlc, and can get you bonuses like faster flight, lost ball radar, and even little music notes player for completing tasks like catching bugs, cleaning leaves, and other silly nonsense. If you love golf, you'll love this game, and if you don't love golf, you still have a good chance of liking this game regardless.
