Update- it’s smoother now
Original review below, but after a lot of time away, it seems much more polished now. Some of them still pop up and there are blemishes, but this a good game with good fun factor. OG REVIEW below but upgrading the score to 4 stars
Origin 2 Star review
Devs, please take a deep look to clean this game up.
First of all, when it's working well, it's awesome.
Unfortunately, It is a difficult game made unnecessarily MORE difficult through cheap deaths and glitchy mechanics.
Pros:
-Multiple classes and upgrades to pursue your stronger playstyles
-BEAUTIFUL art style yielding great graphics as long as you dig the style (I do)
- Mixed reality mode is very fun (but see cons as well)
-Guns are fun and varied, and all have different reloads which is fun too.
Cons
-Normal mode requires you to deposite XP, which at first was interesting, but makes the stakes too high for game with as many issues as this. It also creates a balance issue which has me playing the mixed reality mode more because it's easier to level up do to different XP leveling mechanic. In the main game if you die before depositing the souls (xp) you lose them all. This is frankly BS. Just make us lose 40% or 50% if you want to incite a challenge. Whenever a death feels unwarranted i feel my playtime was WASTED.
-Mixed reality mode needs some serious help. In the MIDDLE of a match my boundry CHNAGED (not the meta one, the game has you set a boundry of play even within that). This led from what started as a GREAT run to immediate death. Very cheap, immersion breaking, game breaking
-Also game breaking in mixed reality, they occasionally can shoot me through the walls, but I can't.
-Balance issues in main game mode: the fog makes it hard to see enemies at a certain distance. It's no fun when we are the same distance and they pick me off as if there is no fog for me, only them.
-GAME BREAKING: In each mode, I have had issues with reaching for side arm, and somehow pulling up ammo instead. Death. The grips on each gun have given me issues registering if I am trying to hold it, or reload it. Nothing like an intense gunfight leading to your death because the gun you tried to reload twirls around in your hands because you try to grab the bolt.
