Dungeon Crawler with Smooth Action Comba
I don't think I have been this addicted to a game since World of Warcraft in 2005, although my brief dabble with Diablo III comes close.
A good game will make you feel like a hero while also feeling challenging and fun. This games delivers on those and in many other aspects as well. The pacing is good in that you have slower parts of the dungeon where you look for keys and gold and don't have to worry too much about fighting. Fighting in lock-in rooms and bosses can be quite intense.
Archery in this game feels amazingly good. Thrown weapons like daggers, axes and hammers require less accurate aim, but are still fun. Crossbows feel quite different compared to bows (more like guns)
Co-op play with other players works well and is for many people the most important part of the game, but you can also have fun playing solo. PvP is an afterthought and not really played by many. The player community and people are really nice. There's no trading in the game (aside from consumables) and there's no competition for loot, glory or gold, so players just naturally help each other out.
Each dungeon is random and even if you save the map for later use, the monsters and end bosses are going to be different each time. Boss difficulty is highly variable and some bosses are miserable to fight if you don't have ranged weapons.
Loot is random and the same items drop at the lowest difficulty as the hardest. Mythic weapons are in most cases a step up from dungeon loot and are accessible to anyone who can put the effort into grinding the experience. Unfortunately the most efficient way to get XP still involves speed-running easy dungeons over and over. High difficulty (extra hazard dungeons) will reward more experience and gold, but take a lot more time and are much less rewarding, especially if you fail the dungeon.
This game is very thin on lore and story. There's a sense of "let's make a cool action RPG" and then they slapped on a bit of story/lore on top of that, but there's not a whole lot and it's an odd mix of classic RPG monsters, medieval weapons and teleporters and "exo suits".
Comfort: you may have to earn your "VR legs" to properly play this game. if you experience any nausea, wait until the next day and then resume. I had to do this for maybe 4-5 days, but the game feels really good now.
