What a finale!
I'm a huge fan of this series, and have played all four of the previous games over and over, so with this and Ghost Town coming out, it's no exaggeration to say that I bought the Quest 3 just to play Fireproof games. The Room VR: A Dark Matter does not disappoint. It's an extension and expansion of the same eerie cosmic horror and steampunk-style puzzles of the previous four games, and the VR element means that this is by far the most atmospheric of any of the series to date. It blew me away, frankly.
In terms of gameplay, Room devotees should be aware that A Dark Matter is both much shorter and a little easier than the last two games in the series. We have a tiny introductory chapter that includes a tutorial, same as every other Room game, followed by three in-depth chapters exploring puzzles laid out in specific locations, and a short concluding chapter where the puzzles are less riddles to be solved and more pieces to put into place to allow the single ending to occur. Like many other reviewers, I would urge you to avoid the hints feature - or even turn it off - it's more rewarding if you figure it out for yourself.
Story is a huge thing for me with this series. I love that we've had more lore and characterisation as the series has progressed. Without any spoilers, the story to this game involves callbacks to all of the last three games, and provides a rich and rewarding conclusion to the series for committed fans. I would love to see the series continue, but if Fireproof are intent on moving on from The Room and the Null, then this is a wonderful finale. Brilliant stuff.
