An exercise I can enjoy
I've owned this for years and never got around to reviewing it for some reason. Maybe it's because it's a staple in VR, the app that should come with every headset by default.
The 7th Birthday track, Danger, inspired me to finally write a review. It's Beat Saber's birthday but we got the gift. It's one of best tracks in the game.
I own most of the rhythm games available for the Quest and this is the one I keep coming back to.
I use Beat Saber as exercise, I don't play competitively because that requires precise quick movements with as little extra movement as possible. I like to take wide swings at the blocks and step left and right to avoid the barriers instead of just leaning my head. This keeps my scores low and my heart rate high.
I was shocked at just how strenuous Beat Saber can be when I got an Apple Watch, set the exercise mode to "dance" and danced to a few fast songs. It can get me near the heart rate limit for my age bracket. The standard "consult your physician before beginning any exercise routine" warning applies.
Tracks like Green Day's "Fire, Ready, Aim" even get me dancing despite my natural resistance to dancing.
Beat Saber's just a joy to play and a way to get someone like me who hates to exercise, exercising on a regular basis.
Buy it for yourself to get in shape.
Buy it for your friends and family who are struggling to find an exercise they enjoy.
