A Fresh Apocalypse: ‘Zombie Gunship Raptor’ Available Now on Oculus Go and Gear VR
You’ve hunted the undead before, but never like this. The first title in Limbic Software’s popular Zombie Gunship franchise designed for VR, Zombie Gunship Raptor takes fan-favorite gameplay and enhances it with the immersive power of presence—and it’s now available on Oculus Go and Gear VR!
If it’s your first tour of duty with Zombie Gunship, then consider this your mission briefing. You’re living in a post-apocalyptic world with a steadily dwindling population. As the gunner of a heavily-armed gunship helicopter, you’re tasked with ensuring the safety of military installations and civilian survivors by—you guessed it—blasting ambulatory corpses as they creep across the battlefield.
“Enemies come from all directions, so the player is required to eliminate threats 360° around them,” says Limbic Co-Founder & CEO Arash Keshmirian and Producer Greg Uhler. “Moving the gunship helicopter from node to node within each warzone is incredibly immersive.”

For die-hard Zombie Gunship fans, this is both a logical next step in the beloved franchise’s evolution and a gaming dream come true. Not all zombie games are created equal, after all, and Raptor expands upon the commercial success of the franchise’s earlier AR offering to deliver a tense experience unique to VR and the zombie genre more broadly. It’s exciting to see undead gaming mature alongside—and thanks to—immersive systems like AR and VR.
“In traditional shooters, the reticle is always at the center of the screen, where the player is looking,” say Uhler and Keshmirian. “Now with VR, the player can point the controller in one direction to fire on a group of zombies while looking elsewhere to assess additional threats. This leads to a more immersive experience and new strategies to win the mission.”

While undeniably cool, adding sophisticated technology only takes an action game so far. In the heat of battle against an army of biters, you need the right gear, vehicles, and, most importantly, firepower. Fans of the franchise and newcomers alike won’t be disappointed.
“Raptor features a new trifecta combination of weapons: a powerful main machine gun, a barrage of rockets for taking out groups of zombies, and large area of effect missiles for taking out Titan zombies,” explain Keshmirian and Uhler. “We also added a diverse upgrade system to ensure players can take their own path to increase their arsenal.”

And that’s not all. Raptor also features a new “Survival” mode designed for the most stalwart soldiers. Here, players fight against never-ending swarms of zombies hell-bent on destroying your precious assets. This nerve-wracking scenario includes new leader boards for players to compare stats and victories while they’re out protecting the world—or what’s left of it.

So what’s on the zombie-infested horizon for Limbic and the Zombie Gunship series?
“New ideas are coming up all the time,” notes Uhler. “I think it’s more about choosing the most compelling ideas than coming up with the ideas themselves. We’re always on the lookout for experiences that only make sense in VR and AR—concepts that can’t be executed any other way. Those are the most exciting for us to explore.”

We can’t wait to see what the team dreams up next. In the meantime, dive into the latest in immersive undead action with Zombie Gunship Raptor on Oculus Go and Gear VR today.
