Swedish Superstar DJ Alesso made his debut at Red Rocks this April, and tonight you can relive a moment of music history in Meta Horizon Worlds. Alesso: Red Rocks Live in VR kicks off at 5:00 pm PT, and you won’t want to miss this electrifying performance featuring hits “Words,” “Under Control,” “Heroes,” and more.

This is the season premiere of our Emmy-nominated Red Rocks Live in VR series, and we couldn’t be more excited. To celebrate, we spoke with Alesso himself about his love of new technology and his first foray into VR.

Tell us a little about yourself and your background. How did you get your start as a DJ and EDM artist?

Alesso: I always loved music and learned piano from a young age. Growing up in Sweden, I was able to fall in love with the electronic music scene and started producing. From there, the next logical step was DJing, and over time I was able to build an audience.

This isn’t your first tech/gaming-related endeavor. Two of your tracks are featured in The Alesso Heist in Payday 2, and you worked with Ninja on “Tilted Towers” in 2018, which you helped promote by livestreaming your Fortnite play sessions together. What can you tell us about those earlier experiences?

Alesso: I’ve always been a big fan of technology and gaming, so when the opportunity to mix those plus my love for music came up, I couldn’t pass. VR is the next step in that progression for tech-forward people. I was an early adopter, and it’s cool to see the progress the platform has made over the last few years.

What does it mean to you personally to be able to perform in VR? What do you think the impact will be for your fans? And are you looking forward to the possibility of introducing your music to new audiences through this venue?

Alesso: Like I said, I’m a huge fan of tech and specifically new tech. I’m always aware as statement pieces are released such as the introduction of VR. The opportunity to do something different—a cutting-edge performance—was special. Whenever I can deliver an experience to my fans that is unlike anything they have ever seen before, that’s something I will always look forward to..

What can you tell us about the production of the VR concert?

Alesso: The craziest thing to me was how real the final product looks. It truly does feel like you’re really at the show, experiencing it live for the first time. Also there are so many angles that even the fan that was there wouldn’t have been able to see!

What can your fans look forward to with this particular concert?

Alesso: This was the debut of my new 2024 production, which has since traveled with me all over the world. Fans will get to experience that for the first time and can see it next at my next headline shows at the Brooklyn Storehouse in September.

If people take one thing away from this blog post, what do you hope that would be and why?

Alesso: I’m just excited for people to see this in action! So many months in the making of work behind the scenes.

Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Alesso: Hope you all enjoy the show!
