Introducing Dev Bloqs: A New Video Series From Beat Games
Last month, Beat Games launched a new video series called Dev Bloqs. ICYMI, the first episode—hosted by Beat Saber Game Director Josh Joynes (aka Freeek)—tackles the release of OST7, the game’s six-year anniversary, bug fixes, and more. Check it out on YouTube below, or keep scrolling for our text-based recap.
Joynes covers the impetus behind Beat Saber’s Original Soundtrack offerings—annual free releases included with the price of the base game that add to its catalog of songs to slash to. OST7 includes an exclusive track from Teminite and Boom Kitty, the debut of a new single from Nitro Fun, the first in-game appearance from F.O.O.L, a new song from Lindsey Stirling, and fan-favorite Camellia. Joynes also gives us a closer look at the game’s expanded laser physics. In addition to colliding, lasers can now reflect from certain surfaces (up to twice per laser). That adds up to more breathtaking light shows and effects moving forward. Keep an eye on the Beat Saber YouTube channel for Zen Mode videos of OST light shows, or enable the Zen Mode modifier during your next play sesh to see the light shows in action.
For those who may have missed the previous notice, Joynes reiterates that Beat Saber will stop supporting the original Quest by November 2, 2024. While the game will still be playable, no new content will be released for that headset beyond OST7. Of course, thanks to cross-buy support, anyone who purchased Beat Saber for the o.g. Quest will also own a copy on PC VR via Link, which does have continued support.
The goal of Dev Bloqs is to share what’s new with Beat Saber, take you behind the scenes, and answer community questions. Different members of the dev team will be featured in future episodes to introduce themselves and share more about their work. Ask questions or leave feedback in the comments!
