‘Marvel’s Deadpool VR’ Shows Off New Story Trailer (Plus a Release Date) at Gamescom
It’s been barely two months since we debuted Marvel’s Deadpool VR at Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest extravaganza, but we know you’ve been champing at the proverbial bit for more details.
Lucky for you, we were at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live today with more Marvel’s Deadpool VR, including a release date. Marvel’s Deadpool VR releases November 18 for $49.99 USD, only on Meta Quest 3 and 3S.
The new Gamescom trailer (viewer discretion advised) also took us straight into Mojoworld for a look at the story of Marvel’s Deadpool VR. That “sketchy contract” we mentioned in the announcement back in June? Turns out it’s with the big man (alien?) himself, Mojo, voiced here by the legendary John Leguizamo.
Mojo’s looking for a hit new show for his “massive, galaxy-spanning streaming network,” and taps Deadpool to recruit new talent. By “recruit,” we of course mean kidnap some of the toughest villains in the galaxy and force them to fight for their lives on an unhinged game show—but recruit is less of a mouthful.
You’ll face off against Marvel fan-favorites like Mephisto, Lady Deathstrike, and Omega Red (and uh…Ultimo) as you try to fulfill Deadpool’s contract and become really (really) rich. Mojo’s galactic audience is watching your every move, so try to have fun with it, you know? Throw your sword into a guy’s chest, or throw him off a ledge, or decapitate him and recite the “Alas, poor Yorick” monologue.
Marvel’s Deadpool VR blends parkour with a freeform combat system that lets you get creative with your hacking and slashing and shooting. The more stylish you are, the faster you’ll get access to some truly Marvel-ous weapons. Build up Deadpool’s special meter, and you’ll get access to Mojo-fied versions of iconic Marvel gear—you might’ve spotted a few in the Gamescom trailer. Wield the mighty Mojo-nir hammer, or throw some of Mojo's Crazy Cajun Cards at enemies and watch them explode.
And it wouldn’t be an action montage without a proper needle drop. Unleashing these Mojo-fied weapons also starts the music. It might just be in Deadpool’s head, but luckily you’re in there too, so you’ll get to hear dozens of licensed songs over the course of Marvel’s Deadpool VR. Don’t touch that dial—we’ll have more details in the near future.
Marvel’s Deadpool VR releases November 18 for $49.99 USD, only on Meta Quest 3 and 3S. Wishlist it now in the Meta Horizon Store.
