Eclectic Electric: ‘Synth Riders’ and ‘OhShape’ Team Up Again with the Caravan Palace Music Pack

Last year, developers Kluge Interactive and Odderslab teamed up to bring a new song to both Synth Riders and OhShape. Today, they’re back with a five-song music pack DLC featuring the greatest hits from French “eccentric electronic” group Caravan Palace.

For Synth Riders on the Oculus Quest and Rift Platforms, the Caravan Palace Music Pack includes a unique audiovisual experience for “Wonderland,” which takes players on a hypnotizing ride. Meanwhile, OhShape on the Quest and Rift Platform will welcome players with a new stage inspired by the band’s signature visuals.

The Caravan Palace Music Pack includes “Lone Digger,” “Miracle,” “Rock It For Me, “Tattoos,” and “Wonderland.” Tracks are available for each game separately, priced at $1.99 USD each or as a bundle for $7.99 USD.

To celebrate today’s collaboration, the developers partnered with LIV to organize a contest for mixed reality creators. You can make videos that showcase the new music pack in both games and submit them in one of three categories on the contest page.

We reached out to Caravan Palace for their take on today’s update.

How did you get involved with this project?

Caravan Palace: The request came from our US label, Le Plan Recordings. It came a bit out of the blue for us, but we were totally seduced by the first tests we were sent.

What was your first experience with VR?

CP: We discovered VR on our last tour. Our videographer who follows us on tour had the good idea to put a 360° camera on stage and to edit several videos, visible in 2D or VR, that we started posting on our social channels in the days following our concerts. It’s a very fun way for the audience to find themselves in the midst of the stage, and to experience what we feel and how it looks like for us from the stage, through a VR headset. We also got to test a VR music studio at the Youtube HQ in Paris. Pretty crazy!

If people take away one thing from the Caravan Palace Music Pack, what do you hope that would be and why?

CP: We hope that people will get hooked on the aesthetics of the sets that accompany this music pack. All the Caravan Palace aesthetic is there—the retro futuristic universe, our fetish robot, the several swing references, dancers, etc. It’s a good introduction to our world!

How do you think VR and AR will continue to change the face of the arts moving forward?

CP: The present time seems particularly well suited to VR, given the period we just lived through with these different lockdowns. In the music world, it’s very interesting to imagine virtual concerts, where the audience could be on stage, move on stage, come and sit next to each performer, and feel that proximity with the artists through VR technology.

CP: As Caravan Palace, we’ve developed quite a big and rich graphic universe over the years, be it animation or illustration, in our music videos, album sleeves, and tour visuals, and it’s a real pleasure for us to penetrate the world of video games this way.
