With writing by Susan O’Connor of Bioshock and Far Cry 2 fame and a score by Garry Schyman, a fellow Bioshock alum who also leant his talents to Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Aspyr Media’s first foray into in-house development is sure to please sci-fi lovers and fans of dark, twisting plot lines. And today, we’re excited to share that Torn—the Black Mirror-inspired VR narrative adventure that Shacknews praised for its pacing, interaction and more—is now available on Rift.

The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror were huge influences for this story,” O’Connor says. “Both shows are such a strange mix of horror and sci-fi and drama—and both shows do such a great job of finding the monsters hiding in the shadows of everyday life, like watching our nightmares playing out in the real world.”

Torn was fascinating to score and is one of the most interesting games I have worked on since BioShock,” adds Schyman. “Both share a dark mystery at their core that shocks when discovered by the player, and both were spectacular opportunities for a composer moved by passionate work.”

Head over to the Developer Blog for a guest post from Aspyr Media Producer Dave Prout, who takes us behind the scenes of this dark sci-fi mystery and the tech that made it possible—and check out the mysterious world of Torn on Rift now through 11:59 pm PT on September 3 to save 15%!
