Almost a year after Ghosts of Tabor fully launched on the Meta Horizon Store, bringing the extraction shooter genre to Meta Quest with intense PvPvE action, it’s reloading with its biggest content update yet. In the Directive Zero update, Tabor is getting a new map, new cosmetics, a revamp to its quest system, and, maybe biggest of all, a new PvE-focused game mode.

Directive Zero adds a huge dose of new content to Ghosts of Tabor. First, it revamps the game’s current mission system, adding story-driven quests that will send you to meet different characters, complete new objectives, and learn the lore of Tabor along the way. After a year of players surviving the aftermath of “the nuclear night,” the new system allows Beyond Frames Entertainment and Combat Waffle Studios to expand on storytelling within the game and give players the “why” behind the objectives they’ve met and the battles they’ve fought. The new mission system also adds depth to the previous approach, where players were mostly tasked with searching through maps to collect items.

Second, Directive Zero brings a new map to Tabor: the Chodov Shopping Mall. The new area supports 12 players, putting them at close quarters with each other as they try to defeat opponents, grab loot, and make it out alive.

But the biggest new addition to Ghosts of Tabor is probably the new PvE mode, available as a core update in single player, or in a squad via the Team Tactics DLC. Up until now, players have been heading into the dangerous nation of Tabor, taking on both AI-controlled enemies and other players in search of fortune and glory. Team Tactics instead focuses on the cooperative aspect of Ghosts of Tabor, bringing a dedicated PvE mode in which you won’t face other players but instead take on smarter, more lethal AI opponents.

The enhanced enemy AI means that opponents react more quickly to your actions and are generally smarter and sharper, making them act more similarly to real players and bringing up the challenge to survive. The AI improvements in Team Tactics are spread throughout the game with Directive Zero, meaning that even if you don’t dabble in the PvE mode, you’ll still face better-trained AI soldiers that’ll make your trips to Tabor even more harrowing.

You can take on Team Tactics with two other players, and it features its own, separate progression path from the base Ghosts of Tabor PvP mode—making it a great way to get your feet wet before taking on the full Tabor experience or to hone your skills. The Team Tactics DLC costs $9.99 USD. And if you’re looking to get some friends into Ghosts of Tabor, only the squad leader has to own the DLC for the whole team to try it.

In addition to all the new content in Directive Zero, you’ll be able to spruce up your guns so you can fight and survive in style. The update brings a new weapon skin application system to the game, and you’ll be able to obtain weapon skins in various ways as you play. If you want a jump-start, though, you can grab the new Camo Weapon Skin Pack that debuts today alongside the Directive Zero update. The DLC pack is available for $2.99 USD and gets you three new patterns to apply to your gear.

Finally, Directive Zero brings a holiday celebration to Tabor in the form of a gift for players. If you play Ghosts of Tabor in December, you’ll get a Santa hat for your character and Christmas-themed weapon skins for your guns, all of which are free. So in addition to a new mode, a new map, and new missions, you’ll have a chance to bring a festive atmosphere as you battle it out with other players and more intelligent AI combatants.

The Directive Zero update is available today in Ghosts of Tabor on Meta Quest headsets. And if you haven’t grabbed Ghosts of Tabor on the Meta Horizon Store, now’s a perfect time—it’s available at a discount as part of the store’s Holiday Sale, for $16.49 USD. You can find prices slashed on a bunch of experiences, including some of the year’s biggest titles, until the Holiday Sale ends at 11:59 pm PT on January 6.
