Outside the Box: ‘GORN 2’ Leaves the Arena for Dungeon Crawling ‘Dungeon Brawler’ Update

Years ago, you conquered the arenas of the living — but that wasn’t enough. In GORN 2, you conquered the dead as well, carving (and punching and bashing) your way through a new set of champions in pursuit of eternal glory. But where’s a warrior to go from there?

Today GORN 2 breaks free from the arena for the first time in series history. The new Dungeon Brawler update turns GORN 2 into a dungeon crawler, keeping GORN’s signature (and often silly) physics-driven combat but challenging players to make their way through 25 unique rooms full of enemies, traps, and more.

The world outside the arena can be cold and scary — literally. Some rooms of this dungeon are coated in ice, meaning your foes will slip-slide around like supersized hockey enforcers trying to drop gloves and fight.

Speaking of hockey, a bevy of new wintery weapons will help you fend off any evildoers. The Dungeon Brawler update adds a Hockey Stick, Puck, Icicle Sword, Ice Arrows, Obsidian Arrows, Shovel, and Pitchfork. There’s also a new freezing mechanic, and new hazards to keep an eye on — or toss enemies into. Plus you’ll unlock modifiers for both your character and weapons as you progress through the dungeon, upping the mayhem you can unleash.

And GORN 2 isn’t just leaving the arena for the first time — it’s also leaving the ground. One of the biggest additions in the Dungeon Brawler update is a dedicated button for jumping. Yes, your legs might be a quarter the length of your arms, but you’ve finally done enough squats to propel that hulking mass of muscle off the ground for a few seconds. Use it wisely.

As you might expect, leaving the arena means Dungeon Brawler gets the chance to expand on GORN 2’s lore as well. Having spent the better part of a decade within the arena battling waves of enemies — both living and dead — we finally get the chance to see who and what is outside the walls. Will we enjoy our freedom or come to miss the relative safety of the arena? Only time will tell.
