‘Healer’ Turns Your Living Room Into An Action-Packed Roguelite, Out Now on Meta Quest 3 and 3S
It’s not every day that living rooms around the world get invaded by an otherworldly virus, but here we are. Healer, from indie developer ROTU Entertainment, is a new action game releasing on Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S today, and it’s a bubble-blasting roguelite that brings fast and chaotic fun to your home using the headset’s immersive passthrough technology.
The premise of Healer is that, across infinite realities, a disease known as the Entropic Virus is spreading and devouring all creativity and color—including your actual physical surroundings. Armed with the power of creation itself, you are the Healer and you’re tasked with eradicating the depressive spread of the virus in the name of joy and happiness.
“Most mixed reality games make you take a boring tutorial nap before anything fun happens,” Jason Parks, CEO of ROTU Entertainment and Producer on Healer, said in an email. “We flipped that. Healer just punts you straight into the cosmic mess. It’s absurdly easy to start, hard to quit, and honestly far too pretty for a game that keeps forcing you to pop bubbles. And my favorite part? We packed the universe with over 50 collectible Cosmic Critters, each with chaotic spooneristic names like Reanu Keeves and completely unhinged quotes and backstories waiting to be discovered.”
Healer is a game that takes a simple premise and hits the ground running with it. Built in Unreal Engine 5 specifically for the Quest 3 and 3S, it’s a spectacle for the eyes that really pushes the headset’s visuals to exciting heights.
“I had a lot of fun, sleepless nights, squeezing every last frame off Meta’s MR tech so our art, audio, and gameplay teams could pack Healer with actual content and fun,” Sebastian Serrano, Game Lead on Healer, said in an email. “Passthrough and handtracking create the best-case scenario for tech folk to grow gray, so I’m pretty proud we still hit our gameplay and visual targets. And because we like grudges, we'll bully the GPU some more, wait until you see our first content patch!”
For fans of intense action games that get you up on your feet and moving around, this latest release is coming at just the right time ahead of the holidays. Healer is out now on the Meta Horizon store for Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
