New Look, New Name: Introducing the Meta Horizon Mobile App

In April, we announced Meta Horizon OS and opened it up to third-party hardware makers. It was an important step toward our vision for a more open computing platform for the metaverse. And thanks to the Meta Horizon social layer, that platform is built around people and connection, letting you hang out, work, and create together in virtual worlds that exist across mixed reality, mobile, and desktop devices.

We’ve been improving our mobile app so you can explore worlds right from your phone, stay up to date on the latest and greatest MR experiences, and connect with friends—even when you’re on-the-go. And as we announced in April, we’re renaming the existing Meta Quest mobile app as the Meta Horizon mobile app, which will begin rolling out next week.

Don’t worry—we aren’t removing any features or functionality from the current app. You’ll still use the app to set up and manage your MR headsets. And you can still easily browse our library of 500+ immersive and MR experiences using the app’s search function and the Store, with thousands more coming soon.

That said, we’ve also expanded the app to make it easier to socialize and express yourself both in and out of the headset. We’re adding a dedicated tab to easily customize your avatar and express your mood, straight from the mobile app. You can even complete Meta Horizon Worlds quests from the app to unlock exclusive avatar styles, items, and emotes.

And you can now explore and join new worlds from the app, connecting with friends over music, games, and more. Travel seamlessly with your friends to catch a live standup set, jump into a battle royale, or just chill out directly from your phone.

Finally, we’re introducing light mode, so you can update the look and feel of the Meta Horizon mobile app to match your preferences. You can easily switch between light and dark mode from the menu.

We’re rolling out the Meta Horizon mobile app for iOS and Android. You may need to update your app on iOS or Android to see these changes. And if you’re new to the app, be sure to search the App Store or Google Play for “Meta Horizon” to download the app and get started.
