Horizon Worlds Spotlight: The Bubble Gum Box

Welcome back to our weekly spotlight on the people building for Horizon Worlds and their amazing creations.

Last time, we learned how Amayah built a great place to learn about the people, lifestyles, and languages of Asia—and how VR can help to break down cultural barriers.

This week, we dive into The Bubble Gum Box, a world by BubbleGumPlanet that showcases how Horizon Worlds creators can help other community members express themselves.

One of the great things about VR is that it lets people take on nearly any persona they choose. They can choose a simple outfit for their avatar or one of our more colorful, extravagant outfits instead—or anything in between. And while some people have the time and skills to create the attachables that accentuate the way they express themselves in Horizon Worlds, many don’t.

That’s why there’s likely to soon be a burgeoning ecosystem for avatar attachables, in part because of new features that enable Horizon Worlds creators to monetize their work.

That’s where The Bubble Gum Box comes in. Teleport to that small world and you’ll be drawn in by a head-bobbing electronic beat and the chance to see what a bunch of new flair looks like on your avatar. And that in and of itself is a means to an end: “You deserve an avatar as unique as yourself,” writes BubbleGumPlanet in a sign posted at the entry. “It’s my mission to help you express yourself here. ... I believe now more than ever that fashion is an artform needed in the metaverse.”

In The Bubble Gum Box, you can try on a number of different sunglasses or other attachables. If you like them and want to buy them, or want to hire BubbleGumPlanet to create something custom for you, it’s easy to get in touch and start a conversation about your sartorial desire.

No matter what though, you can dress up a bit in The Bubble Gum Box, take a selfie, and give the world a hint of how you see yourself in the metaverse.
