Meta Horizon Worlds v164 Release Notes
Meta Horizon Worlds V164 is here! This week, we’re beginning to test a few quality of life improvements related to where you spawn in a world when joining a friend, the overall audio experience in Worlds, and how search works. Read on to learn more!

Quality of Life Improvements
General
- When joining a friend via the social panel or an invite link, you will now spawn near that person in the world rather than at the world’s default spawn point(s), provided this feature is enabled by a world’s creator. This will allow for much faster connection with your friends in worlds and a more intuitive experience.
- We’re running an experiment to improve the search experience by adding a new “All” default tab that will return both worlds and events when searching. Only those in the experiment will see the new “All” tab, while others will see the two existing tab options, “Worlds” and “Events”.
- Mute assist now detects loudness: We’re now testing mute assist’s ability to identify yelling and loud sounds, alongside its existing capability to mute language that makes you uncomfortable, if you have it enabled. This feature will roll out gradually and may not be available to everyone or in every world. To adjust mute assist, go to Settings > Safety & Wellbeing. With mute assist enabled, you can build meaningful connections and have fun in Worlds without being exposed to loud noises, profanity, or offensive language. Learn more about how to use mute assist in Worlds.
- New volume reminder now in testing: We understand that sometimes loud noises and voices can be distracting or frustrating. To address this, we're testing a volume reminder feature. The goal is to improve your experience by:
- Making everyone aware when they're being muted by others.
- Giving people a way to test their volume so they know the right level for the world they're in.
- Speaking extremely loudly, shouting, and arguing.
- Not muting while there is significant background noise.

Creators
- We’ve launched a new Player Setting for all creators called “Spawn Nearby” that will enable players to land near their friends when joining via the social panel or an invite link. We anticipate this will be useful in worlds with complex geometry. Since this is an opt-in setting, it will not be enabled for all worlds by default.
To enable this in your world(s):
- Navigate to the World tab of the Create menu.
- Click Player Settings.
- Find the Spawn Nearby setting and toggle on/off.
Highlighted Bug Fixes
Here are some highlighted bug fixes for this week’s release.
General
- We fixed a bug in which some players that were invited to another player's home world would receive an error message immediately after arriving saying that the host was no longer present (even if they were still in the world) and then would get kicked back to their own home world.
- We fixed a bug that would freeze the Horizon menu when saving photos sent from another player, found in the “For Review” section of the “My Media” menu.
Creators
- We fixed a bug where toast icons and the wearable mute button would appear white in edit mode.
Select Known Issues
Here are some of the known issues the Worlds team is currently investigating.
General
- Sometimes Quest notifications are inaccurate and indicate that a friend is online in Worlds when they are not (and vice versa).
Creators
- Setting a player’s gravity to 0 makes them fall slower but does not stop them from falling.
- The Text Gizmo doesn't display emoji characters.
