Welcome to Meta Horizon Worlds v91! We hope everyone in the community has had a great start to 2023. As you can see when first entering Worlds, there are some big changes for the new year. v91 also includes updates to check your account status, more options for event moderation, party improvements, as well as several bug fixes. Let’s dive in!

New Year, New Look.

Over the past year, Worlds has continued to grow as a vibrant community, and we wanted to ensure that when people first enter, they’re immediately greeted with the same creative energy and excitement found when visiting your worlds, so... no more blue loading screen! Check out the new vista scene that replaces the old loading screen, and let us know your favorite part.

Increasing Transparency with Account Status

Account Status is a new way to see whether an action was taken against your account in response to conduct, world, or post violations. If an action is taken against your account, you’ll receive a notification with an explanation of the violation and the associated Meta policy. With this added level of transparency, we hope to increase awareness of our policies, prevent repeated violations, and promote positive behavior to keep our community safe.

You can access Account Status from the Safety tab in Settings to see an overview of any action taken, the reason for the action, and to learn more about Meta policies.

More Options for Event Moderation

In response to feedback from the community, event creators can now choose whether to allow the “poll to remove” feature for their event guests and attendees. When setting up an event in the Create Event menu, use the associated toggle to turn this feature on or off. This setting can also be updated again at any time during the event.

Let’s Party!

We’re beginning to roll out improvements to the way you party up in Worlds. Inviting friends to party up will be more streamlined and invites will appear more prominently so that they aren’t missed. Most importantly, we addressed some related bugs to ensure friends travel together and aren’t separated. We know that was a big one, so thank you for the patience as we sorted it out!

Quality of Life Improvements

General

  • We’ve added a brief intro on how to use the new Worlds camera.
  • You can now easily share a link to a world with friends from the world details page.
  • World and event cards in the menu have been simplified for clarity.
  • Updated the flow to invite your friend to a new instance when your friend’s instance is full and you can’t join them.
  • We’ve redesigned the people card in your UI to prevent avatars from being cut off.
  • Closed events are now properly blocked off so people don't walk headfirst into the event banners. *awkward*
  • You’ll now be alerted when an event is happening or will happen soon in the world you’re in. Check this feature out on the Event Details screen.
  • We’ve implemented a global navigation system that includes a back button and a close button for main and secondary pages as well as a search bar and camera and photo buttons.
  • “Movement” user settings have been relabeled to “Gameplay” and we’ve added a “Use Grab Lock when available” setting in the Gameplay tab. Please note this defaults to off, so grabbables in worlds that creators have marked as “Use Grab Lock” will have no effect on individual visitors until they opt into the setting.
  • Added a cool down period to polls to reduce poll spam and reduced poll run time to less than 20 seconds.
  • Recentering your height is now done with a long press of the button. We changed from the dual thumbstick click to be consistent with other Meta Quest experiences.

Creators

  • We’ve moved the event creation flow to the world creation menu, so now you can create both new events and new worlds from the same menu. This menu now also includes any events you’ve created so you have a singular place to create worlds and events as well as browse any worlds or events that you’ve created.

Bug Fixes

General

  • When grabbing multiple items in some worlds, frame rates (FPS) would drop. Performance is now improved when grabbing multiple items.

Creators

  • Made the behavior of environment gizmos clearer and more consistent, especially when multiple are used in one world concurrently.
  • Fixed an issue where in some cases the capacity meter was incorrectly showing worlds as over capacity and preventing world edits. [UserVoice]
  • When editing a world for an extended period of time, some editors would be kicked out of build mode with an error. This issue has been fixed. [UserVoice]
  • We fixed an issue where spawning assets would sometimes fail when those assets included components taken from custom assets provided by Worlds.
  • Fixed an issue where Dynamic Light gizmos desynced after a World reset in Visit mode.

Known Issues

General

  • In some uncommon cases, avatars might become invisible if you suspend Worlds by putting your headset to sleep or by taking off your headset and leaving it off for more than 30 seconds. You can fix this by traveling anywhere or by opening and closing the Meta Quest UI. However, we’re working on a fix now.
  • When using party travel to go into personal space, some invited guests will fail to travel and see an “Unable to travel” panel, but the host is able to travel successfully.
  • Meta Quest Pro controllers thumbs don’t work right away while in Worlds. [UserVoice]
