Meta Must Plays: ‘Little Cities’
Welcome to the first entry in our brand new series, Meta Must Plays! We’ll spotlight a different game every week and encourage you to check it out and share your impressions, screenshots, and video clips on social media using the #MetaMustPlays hashtag. For the following week, we’ll pick some of our favorite pics and anecdotes to highlight. You can find guidance on taking VR screenshots and video clips here.
And if you’d really like to continue the conversation and engage with other VR players from around the world about the chosen game each week, you can join our Meta Must Plays Game Club community over on Facebook. We’ll share information about the games there, and it’s a great place to have more involved conversations.
Without further ado, let’s dive into our first Meta Must Plays pick: Little Cities!
Little Cities is a cozy city creator from developer Purple Yonder and publisher nDreams. Featuring a bright, colorful, and charming art style, it puts you in the position to create your very own tiny city and watch it come to life before your eyes. Everything from the way it’s laid out and the amenities available to residents down to the location of roads, houses, and more is in your control.
Whether you’re a veteran of the city-builder genre and want to dive into things from a new perspective, or you’re a newly elected city manager making your first foray into the complexities of city simulators, Little Cities is both deep and accessible without losing its edge. Purple Yonder has done an excellent job making this feel truly made for VR, and it should hopefully result in more games of this genre coming to life on Quest 2 in the future.
If you’re just getting started, check out this quick list of five tips from the developers of Little Cities themselves to help you get your first village off the ground.

When I started working on my first city, it wasn’t overwhelming like these games often are. Moving around the island is simple, and navigating the various menus is as easy as poking and popping bubbles. I’d never claim to be any sort of aspiring city planner, so it’s nice to play a city builder that doesn’t feel like it punishes you every misstep.
As your city grows and you add new residential zones (green), commercial shopping and entertainment zones (blue), and industrial working zones (yellow), it will gradually start to take shape. Planning ahead is key since you’ll need to have roads to reach each corner of the city as well as good locations for things like water towers, windmills, and Wi-Fi antennas to keep citizens happy.
Little Cities is the perfect pick for our first entry in Meta Must Plays because of how fun it is to snap pictures and videos while building. You can see the evolution of my city over the course of about 30 minutes right here. Don’t be camera shy while you’re playing! Sharing images and clips is simple across Facebook Messenger and you can easily download things to post into the Meta Must Play Game Club or on other social media sites like Twitter with no hassle.

Little Cities is available on the Quest Platform for $19.99 USD. For more details on the game and its development, check out our Q&A from when the game first released last month.
