Tap Into the Magic of Shared Moments in Meta Horizon
Whether you’re hanging out at home or traveling to visit friends and family, Meta Horizon is here to amp up your holiday season. And while multiplayer games like Walkabout Mini Golf and Gorilla Tag are great to connect with people who are miles away, there are plenty of ways to share the magic with someone in the same room, too — even if they don’t have a headset.
From Casting Content to Co-Play
When you cast from your Meta Quest 3 or 3S to your computer or mobile device, everyone in the room can see what you’re seeing in-headset, instantly turning even single-player games into a shared experience.
Casting’s an easy way to bring people together, whether you’re an experienced player yourself or helping a first-time player through their early immersive adventures. For families, it also makes it easier to stay connected to what the kids are experiencing, so parents can watch along, offer guidance, and feel confident about what’s happening in-world. Check out this family guide for more ideas about how to experience Quest together at home.
For parents of pre-teens with parent-managed Meta accounts or teens with supervised Meta accounts, casting now goes a step further. Parents can join their child’s Horizon experience from their phone, choosing to observe the gameplay and passively supervise or opting to jump into the action for some quality time. Casting and co-play are a flexible way to bond, stay involved, and make VR something the family can enjoy together. Learn more.
Passthrough
In Passthrough mode, the person in-headset can see their physical surroundings, letting them stay more present and connected with others in the room. Not only can you witness your friends and family’s reactions to your VR exploits, you can easily grab any objects they might try to hand you, like a water bottle to help you cool down after going a few rounds in The Thrill of the Fight 2.
Room Scanning With Hyperscape
We recently started rolling out the ability to share your worlds made with Hyperscape Capture (Beta), so you can hang out in realistic recreations of physical spaces with friends. Now you can show off your holiday decor to all your favorite aunties without anyone having to deal with airport security or traffic jams.
Multi-Headset Co-Location
When multiple headsets are present in the same physical location, they can sync their environments and gameplay for true shared co-play. Round up your crew, charge up your headsets, and jump into some otherworldly holiday party games, collaborative co-op missions, and family-friendly contests. Learn more.
Seamless Headset Hand-Offs
Because you can add up to three Meta Horizon profiles on your Quest, you can easily create an additional profile on the device that lets you easily and securely hand off your headset to someone else so they can take it for a spin — without sharing any of your passwords, payment information, or private chats. And if you turn on app sharing, they’ll be able to access eligible games and apps in your library without having to make their own purchase. Each profile can then create their own passcode to protect their information. Learn more.
Shared Screens
With Quest, multiple people can watch the same content in a shared virtual space. Use your headset to host a VR family movie night or meet up with friends in the Arena to ring in the new year with a killer concert.
Intuitive Interactions
Thanks to voice commands and hand tracking, which let you engage naturally with virtual content using just your voice or your hands, respectively, you don’t have to be familiar with traditional game controllers to experience the magic of VR. You can tell whether or not a specific app supports hand tracking by looking at its product details page on the Meta Horizon Store.
Spatial Video Playback
If you have a supported iPhone model, you can upload spatial videos up to 20 minutes in length to the cloud using the Meta Horizon mobile app for viewing in your Quest headset. Try recording your kids coming downstairs and seeing that Santa visited, then play the moment back for their grandparents in-headset after dinner so they can relive the magic of Christmas morning with you. Learn more.
Screen Recording + Instant Sharing
Whether you just nailed an insane combo in Beat Saber, sunk an impossible putt in GOLF+, or simply want to share the outrageous quips in Marvel’s Deadpool VR, you can easily record video of your VR adventures to share with friends and family after the fact. Your highlights and hilarious reactions are better when shared with the people who matter most.
