Battle Huge Bosses and Grab Great Loot in Co-op Adventure ‘Raider Legends,’ Launching Today on Meta Quest
Developer Gun Raiders Entertainment learned a lot from their popular multiplayer shooter Gun Raiders. They’ve taken those lessons to create something new with Raider Legends, an ever-shifting fantasy adventure landscape where each week brings new challenges, launching for free today on Meta Quest.
Co-op action-adventure game Raider Legends sends you into Rifts, where you can complete adventures alone or with friends in short, bite-sized bursts. As you work to take on enemies and complete objectives, you’ll earn new loot to make yourself stronger, so you can take on tougher adventures and — eventually — some towering bosses.
The idea is to create exciting, social experiences for players that are constantly changing, thanks to weekly updates that can change Raider Legends pretty significantly. One week, you might face a certain set of challenges and bosses, and the next week will throw new Rifts at you, filled with new adventures. The constant updates give you new threats to face and obstacles to overcome, while rewarding you with awesome new loot for your trouble.
Like in Gun Raiders, you can expect to wield a variety of firearms as you make your way through Rifts in Raider Legends, as well as traditional fantasy weapons like swords and bows. Movement and platforming are also big parts of the experience, as you’ll leap and swing around to complete objectives and use your positioning in battle. With each new adventure you complete, you come back with new weapons and gadgets that can change how you play.
To celebrate the launch of Raider Legends, we sat down with Gun Raiders Entertainment CEO Johan Yang and COO Justin Liebregts to talk about what players can expect from the game’s ever-changing Rifts, how the experience can change as you grow more powerful, and how Gun Raiders led to the creation of Raider Legends.

Judging from the store page, there’s a lot going on in Raider Legends. Can you give us the elevator pitch?
Raider Legends is a free-to-play co-op VR action-adventure where you and your friends gather in a shared social world before setting off to battle monsters, defeat epic bosses, complete dynamic objectives, and collect powerful loot. Every adventure is packed with action, teamwork, and rewards, making every run feel fresh.
What was the genesis of Raider Legends, and how has that initial idea changed during development?
Raider Legends started as a more traditional co-op fantasy adventure, but halfway through development we had a realization that fundamentally changed the game. We found ourselves asking, "How do we create more opportunities for players to actually interact with each other?"
Instead of building a larger world that spread players farther apart, we decided to do the opposite: keep players together and bring the adventures to them. That's when we introduced the camp (shared social hub area), where players can meet up, hang out, show off their gear, and seamlessly jump into adventures together. It transformed Raider Legends from a series of missions into a place where adventures naturally begin with other players.
That philosophy continues to shape the game today. We're building Raider Legends around live events, seasonal challenges, and shared goals that encourage players to work together and make the world feel alive.

Is there a story you’re telling in Raider Legends? What can players expect from the world they’ll be exploring?
Raider Legends shares a universe with our previous game, Gun Raiders, but we don't want the lore to be something players simply read; we want it to be something they participate in.
We'll be weaving story and mysteries throughout the world while encouraging the community to connect the dots, share theories, and even create stories of their own. One of our favorite things about Gun Raiders was watching players build their own lore from the experiences they had together, and we hope Raider Legends inspires players to create stories and legends of their own.
Raider Legends includes single player, cooperative, and competitive gameplay elements. How do all those things come together in the experience?
Raider Legends is built around cooperative play, but we also wanted players to enjoy the game however they prefer. If you want to team up with friends, every adventure is designed to encourage cooperation. If you'd rather tackle the challenge alone, our difficulty scaling makes solo play both rewarding and achievable.
At its core, Raider Legends is about tackling adventures together, but we love giving players different ways to enjoy the game. Some players will spend their time helping friends conquer epic bosses, while others will chase speedrun records or prove they can defeat those same bosses solo. The competitive elements are entirely optional, giving players the freedom to create the experience that best fits their playstyle.

The trailer shows some pretty fast-paced gameplay that includes platforming, battling other players, and more. How does that gameplay translate into the player experience, as far as getting around the environment and battling it out with players and bosses?
Movement is a huge part of Raider Legends' identity. Instead of simply pushing a joystick forward, players physically propel themselves through the world using their own arms. That makes movement a skill to master, and simply getting from one place to another becomes part of the fun.
Once players become comfortable with the movement, it completely changes how they approach exploration, platforming, combat, and boss fights. Traversing the world is fast, expressive, and rewarding, giving players the freedom to find creative ways to move and fight.
We also love that this style of physical movement has become familiar to so many VR players. It means they can jump into Raider Legends and focus on mastering the adventure instead of learning a brand new movement system.
When WASD movement and mouse-look became the standard for PC games, they unlocked an entire generation of first-person games. We think physical movement is becoming that same foundation for VR. Raider Legends is our take on what that future can look like.

Speaking of the bosses, we got a few glimpses of them in the trailer, and they seemed pretty big and intimidating. Can you tell us more about what players will face?
We grew up playing games with unforgettable boss battles, and we wanted to create those same kinds of moments for the next generation of VR players. There's something magical about standing shoulder to shoulder with your friends as a giant angry crab comes charging toward you. Everyone starts shouting, improvising, barely surviving, and eventually taking it down together. Those are the moments people remember long after the session ends, and they're exactly the kind of experiences we set out to create.
Boss battles are a huge part of Raider Legends, and we'll be keeping them fresh with a rotating lineup of encounters. One week players might be facing Gort, the mighty Gorilla King, alongside Hermit, our oversized grumpy crab. The next week could introduce entirely new bosses with different mechanics and challenges. We want players to keep coming back to discover what's waiting for them next.
Loot is also a major part of the experience. What can players expect to find, and how can it change up the game?
Progression is a huge part of Raider Legends. As players earn new weapons, armor, gadgets, and experience, they're not just collecting better gear, they're unlocking entirely new ways to approach combat and cooperate with their team. We wanted every upgrade to feel meaningful and give players exciting new strategies to experiment with.
As players grow stronger and more skilled, they'll unlock higher-difficulty adventures, tougher enemies, and even more dangerous boss variants. We're huge fans of action-RPGs, so we wanted players to experience that satisfying feeling of becoming dramatically more powerful over time. The Gort that once felt impossible might eventually become an easy warm-up. But can they defeat Super Gort? We shall see!

With weekly updates, it sounds like you have a lot in mind to expand on Raider Legends over time. What can players expect from those updates, and what are your plans for the future?
Players can expect a constant flow of new game modes, levels, enemies, bosses, gear, gadgets, and seasonal events. Our goal is to make Raider Legends feel like a living world that keeps giving players reasons to come back week after week.
Rather than overwhelming players with everything at once, we're curating the experience through weekly rotations. That lets everyone discover new adventures together, keeps matchmaking focused, and ensures every new boss or game mode gets its chance to shine before the next adventure arrives. We think that approach makes Raider Legends feel more like an ongoing journey than a game you simply finish.
What did you learn from Gun Raiders and how did that experience shape Raider Legends?
Gun Raiders taught us a tremendous amount about building a live VR game and, more importantly, building a game players wanted to keep coming back to. We learned how players naturally socialize in VR, what keeps them coming back, and how valuable it is to listen to community feedback as the game evolves. Those lessons have shaped almost every design decision we've made in Raider Legends.
While Gun Raiders is built around competitive player-versus-player gameplay, Raider Legends lets us explore the other side of that experience. Instead of asking players to compete against each other, we're creating adventures where they can work together to overcome challenges, celebrate victories, and create memorable moments as a team.
Building Gun Raiders also gave us the confidence to tackle something much bigger. We were able to build Raider Legends on everything we learned creating and supporting a live VR game, which let us spend more time focusing on new gameplay and cooperative experiences.

What were your inspirations for Raider Legends? Were there any particular ideas or concepts you wanted to set out to tackle?
Some of our favorite gaming memories are from taking on epic adventures with friends. Whether it was slaying dragons, defeating impossible bosses, or simply hanging out online, those moments are what stayed with us long after we stopped playing. We wanted Raider Legends to capture that same feeling in VR.
At the same time, we wanted to rethink how those adventures are delivered. Rather than asking players to invest hours at a time, we're designing bite-sized adventures that are easy to jump into, rewarding to complete, and fun to experience with friends. Combined with a welcoming, family-friendly environment, our goal is to create a game that's just as much about the people you play with as the adventures themselves.
Is there anything you want to bring up or add that we didn’t ask?
One thing we'd like players to know is that launch is just the beginning. Raider Legends is designed to grow over time with new adventures, bosses, gear, community events, and plenty of surprises.
We've also learned over the years that the best moments in VR aren't scripted by the developers — they happen naturally between players. Our goal with Raider Legends is simply to create more of those moments. If players log off with a great story to tell, some awesome new loot, and a few new friends, we'll know we've built something special.
Everything we've built in Raider Legends comes back to one simple idea: bring players together, and bring the adventure to them.
