Rebel Girls Build the Future in Collaboration with Reality Labs
The Rebel Girls books have been an inspirational resource for my two girls since they were little. Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls was a favorite book in our house, and together we enjoyed reading about the many women trailblazing in their industries. Looking back at my own journey, I dreamed of a career in art and technology, but the path was not always clear. I learned to always be open to trying new things. My passion for creativity led to many opportunities in film, games, and tech.
Rebel Girls’ mission is to help raise the most inspired and confident global generation of girls. It is an honor to lead Creativity Is the Key to Building the Future, a new partnership with Rebel Girls celebrating women technologists helping to build the metaverse. Through this new storytelling collaboration, we will share the stories of some of the women in Reality Labs who are paving the way and will inspire the next generation of future innovators, like my daughters.
We believe that the metaverse will be built collaboratively, with creative ideas and practical applications being developed every day by all sorts of imaginative people. However, by the time students reach college, women are significantly underrepresented in STEM majors—for instance, only around 23% of engineering bachelor’s degrees are awarded to women and only about 22% of computer and information science bachelor’s degrees are awarded to women.
Rebel Girls Build the Future
In collaboration with Reality Labs, Rebel Girls will publish Rebel Girls Build the Future on November 5, 2024, just in time for National STEM Day. The book celebrates 18 women in STEAM who are breaking barriers, leading change, and advancing careers related to the metaverse including in art, engineering, and design. It also includes activities to inspire girls to apply their own creativity and thought to the metaverse. And you can pre-order your own copy now.
Reality Labs and Rebel Girls will partner with First Book, a nonprofit organization that works to remove barriers to education and provide equitable opportunities for under-represented children. It’s important for girls from all backgrounds and means to see themselves as potential leaders and creators of the future. Rebel Girls has donated tens of thousands of books to First Book over the years, and we are proud to continue that partnership with a donation of 5,000 books to underserved communities and Title I schools.
In addition to the print book, Rebel Girls will produce companion audio and video content including four episodes of their Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls podcast amplifying women metaverse creators and Rebel Girls Build the Future—a documentary-style video series celebrating a day in the life of three women helping to build the metaverse through community, art, and engineering.
Rebel Girls’ storytelling inspires girls to dream big, be the stars of their own stories and the heroes of tomorrow, and change the world. We’re thrilled to partner with a brand dedicated to equipping girls with skills today to be successful in the future. By encouraging girls to discover their passion and interest in STEAM today, we’ll help them have the confidence to be the leaders needed to help build the metaverse of tomorrow.
