‘Resident Evil 4’ Wins Best VR Game of the Year at The SXSW Gaming Awards
Armature Studio, Oculus Studios and Capcom took another bite out of the competition once again with the SXSW Gaming Awards, taking home top honors in the VR category by securing Resident Evil 4’s win for Best VR Game of the Year! This adds onto their growing resume of award wins since launch, such as Best VR Game at The Game Awards in December as well as Best Remake and Best AR/VR Game of the Year at the 11th Annual New York Game Awards last month.
For this year’s SXSW Gaming Awards the Best VR Game of the Year category was overflowing with quality titles including Lone Echo II, which just won Best VR Game at the 25th Annual D.I.C.E Awards, as well as Demeo, After the Fall, and Song in the Smoke.
In Resident Evil 4, you step into the shoes of Leon S. Kennedy as a special agent for the U.S. government on his mission to rescue the US President’s daughter who has been kidnapped by a mysterious cult, now in first-person VR for the very first time. Find your way through a rural European village, come face to face with challenging enemies, and uncover secrets and gameplay that have revolutionized the entire survival horror genre. Battle horrific creatures infected by the Las Plagas parasite and face off against aggressive enemies including mind-controlled villagers as you discover their connection to Los Illuminados, the cult behind the abduction.
It’s a thrilling adventure that takes on all-new life (pun intended) now that’s realized in VR. For more insight into the harrowing adventure, don’t forget to check out our hands-on impressions for details on what it’s like to embody the iconic hero.
IGN gave Resident Evil 4 on Quest 2 a 9 out of 10 in its review, dubbing it “one of the best versions” of the critically-acclaimed classic. And arriving as a free update to the game this year, The Mercenaries, a fan-favorite mode, will expand the adventure by putting players in intense matches against a never-ending horde of Ganados to earn points before time runs out and the evacuation chopper arrives.
Congratulations once again to all those nominated and to Armature Studio, Oculus Studios and Capcom for securing another VR Game of the Year award for Resident Evil 4! You can enter the nightmare for yourself right now on Quest 2 for $39.99 USD.
