‘Riven’ Announces Release Date and Opens Preorders
Only a few weeks ago, Cyan revealed that its upcoming Riven remake would release on Meta Quest 2 and 3 later this year. But how much later?
Good news—you won’t have to wait long at all. Today, Cyan announced that Riven will launch on June 25, just a few short weeks from now. Preorders also start today, so head over to the Meta Quest Store and get Riven for a discounted price of $30.99 USD (at release it will go back to the list price of $34.99 USD).
To recap: Riven is the 1997 sequel to Myst, one of the best-selling puzzle games of all time (and also available on Meta Quest). A grander and more ambitious sequel, many consider Riven to be Cyan’s masterpiece, with its interlocking puzzles and its tale of the despotic Gehn and his crumbling prison-kingdom.

Unfortunately, “grander and more ambitious” meant “harder to remake.” While Myst received multiple remakes over the last 30 years as technology progressed, Riven has only been available in the same form since 1997, its once-groundbreaking world visible only through a 480p window—albeit with much less CD-ROM swapping.
Cyan has painstakingly recreated Riven in Unreal Engine 5, enabling players to experience this iconic world and its devious puzzles in full 3D for the first time ever, from start to finish. They’ve also pushed Meta Quest 3 to its limits, as evidenced by the screenshots in this post, all of which were taken on the headset.

While Riven is a standalone adventure, you can pick up Myst on the Meta Quest Store for $29.99 USD to experience more of the universe (and Cyan’s masterful puzzles).
Otherwise, preorder Riven today before its release on Meta Quest 2 and 3—and on June 25, prepare to be transported to Gehn’s Fifth Age as if you’d reached out and touched an actual Linking Book.
