Update May 15, 2024: Jay Pharoah at The Soapstone has been postponed. Stay tuned for the new premiere date!

It’s been almost two years to the day since we first featured The Soapstone Comedy Club here on the blog. Since then, Soapstone has been home to up-and-coming comedians like Mike E. Winfield, Zoltan Kaszas, Daphnique Springs, Pinky Patel, and more. And today, entertainers and comedy fans alike can step inside the brand-new Soapstone Comedy Club at Hanalei Bay—your tropical destination to tickle your funny bone, only in Meta Horizon Worlds.

Things kick off tonight at 5:00 pm PT for the official Launch Party where you can hang loose, hang out, and explore upcoming shows like the new Soapstone Comedy Presents: Premieres series.

The lineup includes Jay Pharoah, the master impressionist from Saturday Night Live, performing in fully immersive avatar form. Tip the applause-o-meter during the show to unlock the “sword in the soapstone” after party. Then the star of HBO’s Crashing and five standup specials Pete Holmes takes the virtual stage June 13, followed by the “western quickdraw” after party.

Next up is Natasha Leggero of Netflix, Comedy Central, and the Endless Honeymoon podcast fame on July 11, followed by Ron Funches, who you just might know as Cooper from the Trolls franchise, on August 8. Jesus Trejo from Tacos Con Todo and dozens of TV appearances keeps the laughs rolling on September 5, and Cristela Alonzo from the ABC sitcom Cristela rounds out the roster on October 3.

We recorded each comic in avatar form for electric sets that can be played across near-infinite instances, so you never have to worry about a sold-out crowd. And each show plays at 2:00, 5:00, and 8:00 pm PT to accommodate a range of schedules. Fans can look forward to moments of audience participation, dynamic environment changes, and more.

Along with an impressive roster of headliners, The Soapstone is home to open mic nights, a Sunday night “Story Hour” that gives everyone the chance to get on stage and share their story, and more. And it’s continued to evolve over time.

“Today, Nspire Create Labs and I launched our sixth major redesign of The Soapstone,” says world creator Aaron Sorrels of the comedy club’s refreshed look and feel. “With each redesign, we’ve carried forward the things that people love about the prior builds while incorporating the latest building and scripting techniques to push the experience further. But that’s just the physical space. The real evolution has come from the people within our community. People who started out shy and observant have found their spotlight and have become leaders to help others find theirs. Our community works together to produce over 50 shows each month and open mic experiences that happen 24/7.”

The new Soapstone Comedy Club at Hanalei Bay transports you to the northern shore of Kauai where you can see the ocean waves, hear the sounds of the sea, and practically feel the breeze on your face. “It is the best possible place to hang loose and laugh out loud,” says Sorrels.

“Everything we do and every important decision we make is based on feedback from the community,” Sorrels adds. “We have a lead team of nine people who meet daily, over 50 Certified Soapstone Mentors, Producers, and Hosts who produce experiences weekly, and a group of over 300 contributors that connect monthly on our Discord channel. These people are The Soapstone, and they provide regular feedback on who we are and what we should become.”
