Getting Started With Travel Mode on Meta Quest 2 & 3

Yesterday, we announced Travel Mode, which lets you use your Meta Quest 2 or 3 headset while on a flight. Today, we’re sharing more details and some tips and tricks to help you get started.

Getting Started

First, make sure your headset is running v65 or later—you may need to restart your headset to see Travel Mode. You’ll then need to opt in under the Experimental features section of your Settings menu. Once you’ve enabled Travel Mode, it will be added to your Quick Settings menu so you can easily turn it on or off at any time. And depending on which airline you’re flying, your headset may automatically detect when you’re on an airplane and recommend turning on Travel Mode to make the experience as seamless as possible.

Travel Tips

Be aware of your surroundings. Don’t rely solely on your stationary boundary while in Travel Mode—stay seated and remain mindful of the tray table, your neighbors, and people moving through the aisle. Be considerate and choose content that fits your (possibly (probably?) limited) play space.

Pick appropriate content. Streaming movies, TV shows, or other entertainment content is a great option. So are games that don’t require a lot of movement. You might want to steer clear of titles with a lot of jump scares, too. 🙈

Stay safe and have fun. Only use Travel Mode while seated (with your seatbelt fastened because rules). Travel Mode works best under smooth conditions, so you may want to take a break if you hit turbulence. Be sure to keep your headset properly stored during takeoff and landing. Pay attention to in-flight announcements, and listen to your flight crew.
