Roomscale Recon: ‘Unseen Diplomacy 2’ Launches On Meta Quest In Early Access

From the hidden jungle bases of Puerto Rico to the frozen lakes of Iceland, the life of a spy usually entails traveling to some of the most stunning places this world has to offer. This next mission takes place a little closer to home, though. A lot closer, in fact. Unseen Diplomacy 2 is bringing the laser-dodging, camera-disabling, secret-stealing life of espionage to your living room.

Back in 2016, the original Unseen Diplomacy wowed players with its commitment to real room-scale locomotion. Levels in Unseen Diplomacy fit your playspace, meaning you were walking, crawling, and hopping around your actual room while some in-game geometrical trickery made it seem like you explored a much larger space. It was a one-of-a-kind experience, though releasing for the Rift meant you had to do all this while also wearing a wire connected to your PC.

Unseen Diplomacy 2 is freeing, in that respect. Coming to Meta Quest 3 and 3S in Early Access today, now you can dodge and duck under those laser grids with no wires to hold you back. The sequel is set in a 1990s-inspired world of analog tech. You’ll play as a spymaster, simultaneously managing an agency while also handling the most sensitive missions in the field.

When it comes to getting your hands dirty, you’ll have a number of spy gadgets to play around with, including a camera, a pair of wire clippers, and blow darts for sending enemies off to dreamland. You’ll also be able to don disguises, and of course, you’ll spend much of your time dodging and disabling traps, thwarting alarms, stealing intel, and trying to escape undetected. Levels are procedurally generated to fit your space — and you can even play in your living room, blending Unseen Diplomacy 2’s digital traps with your physical environment, if you’d like to set a spy thriller around your house.

Between missions you’ll manage your agency, recruiting agents and deploying them on high-stakes escapades of their own to thwart rogue corporations, mad scientists, and more. Do your job well, and the world might never know how close it came to disaster. The road to success varies from playthrough to playthrough, and each mission will bring you closer to the truth.

While Unseen Diplomacy 2 is designed (like its predecessor) to be played in full room-scale mode, using redirection to steer you around a space that seems bigger than it actually is, there are also a number of accessibility options that will enable you to play in smaller spaces — or even play seated, if you don’t like the idea of rolling around on your carpet.

As mentioned, Unseen Diplomacy 2 is launching in Early Access, but it’s a pretty “late” version of Early Access. Developer Triangular Pixels says the game is already done — they’re only releasing in Early Access for a brief window to “gather community feedback, refine mechanics, balance difficulty, and polish the experience across different playstyles and spaces.” They intend to keep Early Access short, with the 1.0 launch adding more missions, additional challenges, and multiple endings.
