Sammy Hagar can’t drive 55, and our v55 update also has its foot on the gas, rolling out to a Meta Quest headset near you starting ... NOW. This latest software update includes higher CPU and GPU clock speeds for both Quest 2 and Pro, multi-touch support for the Meta Quest Browser, and more.

Read on for the details, and remember: Our software updates roll out gradually to minimize issues, so if v55 hasn’t hit your headset yet, don’t worry. Keep calm, game on, and you should see the update soon.

Higher Clock Speeds on Quest 2 + Pro

We promised you a performance upgrade, and now we’re delivering. With v55, we're updating the Quest 2 and Pro GPU and CPU. Both headsets should see an up-to 26% CPU performance increase, while you can expect an up-to 19% GPU speed increase for Quest 2 and 11% GPU speed increase for Quest Pro. As developers take advantage of these changes, look out for smoother gameplay, a more responsive UI, and richer content on both headsets. And we’re enabling Dynamic Resolution Scaling for both Quest 2 and Pro, so games and apps can take advantage of increased pixel density without dropping frames.

Messenger Gets a Standalone VR App

Get ready to connect with friends and make some new ones in a more natural way in VR. This update helps you connect seamlessly across any surface, whether it’s 2D (mobile, web, desktop) or 3D. Use your voice to hang out with those who matter most or express yourself through personalized avatars. Messenger lets you choose from a variety of different avatars, which you can customize with different clothing, accessories, and hairstyles to better represent yourself.

Your New & Improved Explore

Explore is now your one-stop shop for entertainment and connection in VR. The new Explore brings together short-form videos, media content, and more, all in one convenient place. Express yourself with new Avatar digital outfits, enjoy your favorite shows and movies, or explore new worlds in Meta Horizon Worlds. And if you’ve connected your Facebook or Instagram account to the same Accounts Center as your Meta account, you can watch Instagram and Facebook Reels to keep VR fresh with content relevant to your passions and interests. We are rolling out the update gradually to ensure there are no issues, so stay tuned—it should be available to you soon!

Meta Quest Browser Adds Multi-Touch Support

The Meta Quest Browser now has multi-touch gesture support. That means you can now use either your Touch controllers or your hands to zoom in, zoom out, and interact with other web elements. Multi-touch gesture support is a great way to interact with web pages and images in a more natural, intuitive way. We hope you’ll enjoy it while browsing online, watching videos, and playing games.
