Meta Quest v59 Update: Chat Reactions, YouTube Live Chat, and More

|
|

It’s officially fall, Meta Quest 3 is out in the wild, and our v59 software update is upon us! This month, we’re making chats more expressive, helping VR content creators make their streams more social, making it easier than ever to connect with friends in VR, and more.

Details below, and as always, this is your friendly reminder that our software updates roll out gradually. If you don’t see the v59 update yet, remain calm. It’s on its way and should be in your virtual hands soon.

Reactions (& More) Have Entered the Chat

Your in-headset experience just got a little more expressive, engaging, and fun. You can now send images,* use Avatar stickers, or add reactions to messages to express yourself in new and exciting ways. These updates are the perfect way to take your chats to the next level, whether you’re in your headset or on the Meta Quest App.

Up Your Game with YouTube Live Chat

Whether you’re a casual creator or more serious streamer, having easy access to live feedback from your audience is key to producing engaging content. With v59, we’re providing creators with early access to YouTube live chat, so you can seamlessly follow and respond to the fan conversation—even while fully immersed in the latest VR games and experiences. If you are a YouTube creator and would like to try out this new chat feature, please fill out the early access interest form.

Keep Up With Your Friends

Want to squad up with friends for some POPULATION: ONE or hang out together in Meta Horizon Worlds? The new Activities tab makes it easier than ever to connect and play together. This new tab will show invites to recommended apps and games for your group to get together. Also it’s now easier than ever to start a call with your group. If anyone from the group is in an active call, this new layout displays who is in the call so you can quickly join them.

Giving Us (Battery) Life

Meta Quest 3’s extended battery feature gives you more control over the tradeoff between active battery life and high performance. It’s designed to help you decide whether you want to extend playtime or experience the best possible graphics. You can toggle this feature on and off from your power settings menu.

All in the Family (Center)

We’re updating parental supervision in the Meta Quest mobile app to make it easier for parents and guardians to give their teens and preteens support on Meta Quest. Family Center is now more seamlessly integrated into the Meta Quest app, and both parents and teens will now be able to initiate invitations to supervision.

To help manage your teens’ use of Meta Quest, you’ll also soon be able to set daily time limits and scheduled breaks.

This is part of our ongoing work to provide a central and familiar place for parents across Meta technologies and strengthen the dialogue between parents and their teens and preteens about their online lives.

The full suite of tools, insights, and resources can now be found under “Parental Supervision” in the Meta Quest mobile app. This update is rolling out gradually, so you may not see it right away.

Check out our v59 Release Notes for a more comprehensive look at all the changes. We’ll see you next time for a new Meta Quest software update.
