Settings that you can manage across your accounts in an Accounts Centre
You can manage certain account settings across your Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads and Meta accounts in Accounts Centre.
You can find Accounts Centre on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp or from your Meta account, in settings.
You can choose to move accounts into or out of an Accounts Centre at any time. If a Facebook, Instagram, Threads or Meta account is moved out of an Accounts Centre, that account will live in its own Accounts Centre, where you can manage settings. If you move a WhatsApp account out of an Accounts Centre, you won't be able to manage settings for that account in Accounts Centre.
Note: Not all settings managed in Accounts Centre are available for WhatsApp and Threads at this time. Learn more about which settings are available for WhatsApp and Threads in Accounts Centre.
Settings that apply across accounts in the same Accounts Centre
To make it easier to control your preferences across your accounts in one place, there are some settings that must be the same across all accounts in the same Accounts Centre. These settings include some of your ad preferences, for example.
When needed, we'll adjust these settings to match across your accounts and profiles, if you add accounts to the same Accounts Centre that previously had different setting selections (for example, your Facebook and Instagram accounts have different ad topic preferences). You can change these settings in Accounts Centre, under Account settings, at any time.
Your date of birth
The date of birth that you provide when you set up your Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads or Meta account helps us to personalise your experience, to provide age-appropriate experiences for our users and to ensure that underage people aren't using our platforms. Learn more about why we ask for your date of birth. Dates of birth need to match across all accounts in an Accounts Centre.
If you add a new account that has a different date of birth to your other accounts in an Accounts Centre, we may ask you to select your accurate date of birth before your new account can be added. Once you've added your accounts to an Accounts Centre, you may be asked to verify your age if you try to access certain experiences and features.
Your ad preferences
You can visit your ad preferences within Accounts Centre settings, where you can manage things such as your ad topics, interests and your profile information to get a more personalised experience.
Some ad preferences are applied to all your accounts added to the same Accounts Centre. You can read more about how your ads preferences apply to your accounts or visit your ad preferences for more information.
Within ad preferences, you can also see your recent ad activity or advertisers that you've recently seen on your Instagram and Facebook accounts that you've added to the same Accounts Centre. If you are under 18 (or under 20 in Thailand), some ads settings will no longer be relevant to you, and you won't have access to those settings.
Your ad topic preferences
To help influence your ad experience on Facebook or Instagram, you can choose to see fewer ads about certain topics such as alcohol, gambling, parenting or pets. If you add accounts to the same Accounts Centre (for example, your Facebook and Instagram accounts), we'll adjust this setting to match across your accounts.
For ad topics that you've selected to see less of, we've applied that preference to all accounts in the same Accounts Centre.
For example, if you chose to see fewer ads about parenting on your Instagram account, and you chose to see fewer ads about alcohol on your Facebook account, we'll adjust your ad topic preferences across both accounts to show fewer ads about both parenting and alcohol.
Categories used to reach you
You can choose what profile information is used to help personalise your ads. You can also choose whether advertisers can reach you based on other categories that we associate with you. You can review these categories and remove yourself at any time.
Preferences for your activity from other businesses
You can adjust this setting to choose whether we use information that other businesses or organisations send us about your activity on their apps or websites, or your offline interactions with them (such as in-store purchases) to show you ads and other content.
If you've turned off the Activity from other businesses setting on any of the accounts in an Accounts Centre, we'll apply that choice for all accounts in that Accounts Centre.
Your audience-based advertising preferences
Advertisers can choose to show ads to certain audiences. You can view the advertisers whose audiences you have been included in based on your information or activity off-Meta technologies, and decide whether we can show you ads based on this information.
Cookies are small pieces of text used to store information on web browsers. They're used to store and receive identifiers and other info on computers, phones and other devices. Other technologies, including identifiers associated with your device, and other software, are used for similar purposes. We refer to all of these technologies as cookies. Learn more about our cookies policy.
In Accounts Centre, you can manage two types of optional cookies: 1. our cookies on other apps and websites and 2. cookies from other companies. If your accounts have the same optional cookies preferences, we'll apply those preferences to all accounts added to the same Accounts Centre.
If accounts that you add to the same Accounts Centre have different optional cookies preferences, and at least one account is opted out of an optional cookies setting, then we'll opt out all the accounts in the same Accounts Centre from all optional cookies, until the next time we ask you to refresh your cookies preferences.
For example, If you add your Facebook and Instagram accounts to the same Accounts Centre, and your Facebook account has been opted out of one of the optional cookies but your Instagram account is opted in to both of them, we'll opt out your accounts from all of the optional cookies.
Move accounts out of an Accounts Centre with other accounts to manage settings individually
You can move accounts out of an Accounts Centre at any time if you'd like to manage these settings differently for each account in their own Accounts Centre. Once you've moved an account out of an Accounts Centre, any changes that were made to these settings while the accounts were in that Accounts Centre, including the settings we adjusted for you, will still apply to these accounts. The settings will not revert to the selection made before adding the account to an Accounts Centre.
Note: If you move a WhatsApp account out of an Accounts Centre, you won't be able to manage settings for that account in Accounts Centre.
Settings that you can manage individually for your accounts in an Accounts Centre
Note: Not all of the settings listed below are available for WhatsApp or Threads in Accounts Centre.
You can find the following settings in Accounts Centre, under Account settings:
- Personal details: Update your contact information, date of birth, manage your identity confirmation, adjust your memorialisation preferences, delete or deactivate your account or profile.
- Password and security: Manage your password, manage two-factor authentication, manage login alerts, login activity and where you're logged in.
- Your information and permissions: Adjust how you upload contacts or manage your search history. You can also download, access, transfer or manage your information.
- Payments: Manage settings for Meta Pay.
For each of these settings, you can make different choices across your accounts in the same Accounts Centre. For example, you can choose different passwords for your Facebook, Instagram or Meta accounts or have different Meta Pay selections.
Additional Facebook profiles in Accounts Centre
You can manage certain profile settings including your name, username, profile picture and/or avatar for each additional Facebook profile you have in an Accounts Centre. You can also delete, deactivate and/or reactivate additional profiles under Personal details.
Settings that are not moving to Accounts Centre
You can still manage settings that only affect your experience on a single app within the settings menu on that specific app. These settings include:
- Preferences that are specific to that experience (for example, Activity Log for Facebook, Notifications for Instagram, language settings for Meta Quest)
- Device settings for a specific app (for example, dark mode, media settings – video and photos, mobile data usage)
- Who can see and interact with you and your posts in a specific app (profile locking, profile and tagging)
