Conversation focus is available through the Early Access programme in the US and Canada and is free to use. This feature is not available on Ray-Ban Meta optics or Meta Glasses and may require a paid subscription in the future.

Conversation focus amplifies the voices of people in front of you for better communication in noisy places.

How to start conversation focus

If it is your first time using conversation focus, you will need to take the audio tour to set up the feature. After it's set up, you can start conversation focus by doing any of the following:

  • Say "Hey Meta, start conversation focus".
  • Tap Glasses, then Conversation focus in the Meta AI mobile app.
  • You can also assign the tap and hold gesture on the glasses touchpad to conversation focus.
    1. Tap Glasses in the Meta AI mobile app, then tap Device settings.
    2. Scroll down and tap Customise controls.
    3. Tap Touchpad.
    4. Tap Conversation focus.

Once you've started conversation focus, you will hear a notification on your glasses, then you will hear the person you're facing amplified by the glasses. The amplified voice will sound slightly brighter, which will help distinguish the conversation from the background noise.

Conversation focus will pause if another feature needs to use your glasses' microphones, such as when you get a phone call or start recording a video. Conversation focus will turn off when you take off your glasses and close the arms; you will need to turn it back on to use it again.

Conversation focus tips

  • Conversation focus works best when you face the person talking and keep a conversational distance of no more than 6 feet apart.
  • Conversation focus is best in noisy social situations, such as restaurants or work events, but is not intended for extremely loud environments.

How to adjust conversation focus amplification level

When conversation focus is on, you can adjust the amplification level using the glasses touchpad. Swipe forwards on the touchpad to increase the amplification level and swipe back to decrease it.

You can also select an amplification style and adjust the amplification level from the Meta AI mobile app:

  1. Tap Glasses in the Meta AI mobile app, tap Conversation focus.
  2. From here, you can:
    • Tap to select an amplification style.
      1. Standard – Moderate speech amplification for natural-sounding voices. Best in most environments.
      2. Boosted - Extra amplification so speech sounds sharper in louder environments.
    • Tap + or - to adjust Amplification level.

How to stop conversation focus

You can stop conversation focus by doing any of the following:

  • Say "Hey Meta, stop conversation focus".
  • Tap Conversation focus from Glasses in the Meta AI mobile app, then tap Off.
  • Take off your glasses and fold the arms closed.
  • If you've assigned the tap and hold gesture to the glasses touchpad, tap and hold the touchpad to stop conversation focus.

How to pause or resume conversation focus

  • Tap the glasses touchpad to pause conversation focus.
  • Tap the touchpad again to resume conversation focus.

Notes

  • Use conversation focus in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Conversation focus is not a hearing aid or medical device and does not diagnose, treat or compensate for hearing loss. It is an AI audio feature designed for normal-hearing users in noisy environments.
  • Follow the Health and Safety guidelines for your glasses.
  • Conversation focus is designed to enhance your ability to follow conversations that you're actively a part of. It works best when you are looking directly at the person that you are talking to. The feature is limited by background noise and is not designed to amplify whispers or faint speech in noisy places.
