Meta Quest release notes
Wondering what's new with Meta Quest? Take a look at our release notes to learn about the latest operating system (OS) features and enhancements that we've made to your Meta Quest experience.
Meta Horizon OS version 2.1
Version 2.1 Public Test Channel (PTC) week of 9 February 2026
These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of 9 February 2026 and will be rolled out gradually to people who are enrolled in the Public Test Channel.
Introducing Meta Horizon OS 2
Meta Horizon OS 2 brings an enhanced user experience that is more immersive and effortless. This improvement is largely driven by the ongoing, gradual introduction of Navigator, our modernised user interface.
Users who have access to Navigator will see other changes, such as the removal of Worlds from the system bar (users will be able to access Worlds directly from the Library) and the continued sunsetting of Horizon Feed, providing a more intentional and streamlined user experience. This next evolution of our operating system also brings a straightforward versioning system (e.g. OS 2.1, 2.2), allowing you to differentiate between major feature releases and smaller, incremental refinements.
Updates to Navigator
- Users with Navigator have a redesigned layout. This new layout ensures that essential information, such as ongoing activities and notifications, remains visible within your field of view so that you aren't distracted from your current task. You can customise where they appear in Settings under Notifications and Ongoing activities.
- You can now see battery level and Wi-Fi status next to the clock in Navigator, making it easier to check your headset's status at a glance.
Customise app and window positions
- Apps, windows and panels now automatically snap and align to nearby walls for a more comfortable viewing experience. When you move an app close to a recognised surface, it will snap to that spot. You can always override this and place apps exactly where you want.
- Windows now smoothly rescale in real time as you move them closer or further away, giving you an accurate preview of their size and position when moving them.
Search for Xbox games
You can now search and discover Xbox games directly from search on Meta Quest even if you haven't installed the Xbox app.
Control media sharing
You now have more control over your privacy when sharing photos and videos with apps. Instead of granting all-or-nothing access, you can choose to only share specific photos and videos with each app. Select which media to share when prompted, and manage or update your choices at any time in Settings.
Meta Horizon OS version 85
Version 85.0 week of 26 January 2026
These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of 26 January 2026 and will be pushed to Meta Quest 3, 3S, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets.
Horizon Feed and UI changes
With v85, we will gradually begin sunsetting Horizon Feed in VR. We will also continue our rollout of Navigator, which makes exploration in VR more seamless. This will start with a small number of users before being rolled out more broadly in future releases.
Ongoing activities
The ongoing activities bar has been enhanced to offer a cleaner, more consistent experience. This improved design provides easier access to controls for various functions, such as taking videos, making calls or enjoying media. These updates establish a foundation for future improvements and the integration of new features in upcoming releases.
Hide hands
You can now hide your virtual hands when you don't need them. To access this feature, ensure that Expanded quick actions are enabled in the Movement tracking section of Settings. Look at your palm, then pinch and hold to access the menu. Select Hide hands and release your pinch to temporarily hide hand tracking. To bring your hands back, look at your palms and pinch. Your hands will always reappear after restarting your device. This feature is being rolled out gradually.
Surface keyboard and touchpad
Surface keyboard and touchpad, a new experimental feature on Quest 3, transforms any desk or table into a virtual keyboard and touchpad for text entry and cursor control, making it ideal for casual productivity, browsing, messaging and 2D applications.
This experimental release focuses on core typing and cursor control. The keyboard has a basic key set, while the touchpad supports index finger actions, such as move, click (tap), drag (double-tap and move) and two-finger scrolling with your index and middle finger. A physical keyboard is still advised for high-volume writing.
You can opt in to this feature from the Experimental section of Settings on your Quest 3. This feature is being rolled out gradually.
Action button customisation on Meta Quest 3S
The action button on your Meta Quest 3S headset is now customisable from Settings. You can personalise it to perform your preferred system actions with either a short or a long press. This allows for faster access to the actions that matter most to you, without needing to exit your current experience.
Scan apps for malware
Meta Quest now offers enhanced malware protection through new on-device scanning. When apps are installed or updated, they are checked locally for known issues. If malware is detected, you'll receive a notification with options to uninstall the app or stop the installation before any issues occur.
Privacy indicator
Maintain control over your privacy with a new privacy indicator. This feature alerts you whenever an app accesses sensitive permissions, such as your microphone, camera or location, ensuring that you are always aware of when your data is being used.
In 2D and theatre mode apps, a persistent purple dot in the control bar serves as this indicator. Tapping the indicator provides further details and options for managing app permissions.
Voice control
Meta Quest's new voice control allows hands-free navigation and interaction with 2D panels using just voice commands and head movements, eliminating the need for a controller. This update improves accessibility for users with limited hand mobility and offers a convenient alternative for everyone. Visual and audio feedback confirms actions. You can enable voice control from the Accessibility section of Settings.
Anchored browser
The Browser app is now conveniently anchored in your home, offering instant web access without needing to launch it from your library. This new feature dedicates a spot on your virtual Home wall for browsing. You can easily customise your experience by removing or re-adding this pinned browser through the in-world menu.
Passkey login with Meta Quest browser
You can now log in to supported websites such as Google, YouTube and Discord using passkeys in the browser. With passkeys, you don't need to remember passwords. Instead, you can store a key securely on your device and use a passcode to access it. Enjoy a smoother login experience and enhanced protection when accessing your favourite sites.

Space Setup
Enable representation of more complex architectural elements like multi-height floors, slanted ceilings, and inner walls in Space Setup. This will improve realism of mixed reality experiences by further blending the physical space with virtual content.
Boundary settings simplification
We’ve streamlined the Boundary settings page to make it easier to use. Users can no longer update their boundary sensitivity and controller speed independently, they can now do it easily on one slider. popular features like Stationary Boundary size, Boundary Color, and Glanceable Bounds remain available.
System Positional TimeWarp (PTW)
We’re introducing System Positional TimeWarp (SysPTW) from Depth-From-Stereo to Quest headsets. PTW uses real-time scene depth to reduce visual judder and lag when apps drop frames, making movement in VR smoother and more comfortable. This feature automatically activates when needed and works across all apps, with no impact on regular performance. You can expect a more stable experience, especially in demanding social and gaming apps
Meta Horizon Link App
Meta Quest Link App is now Meta Horizon Link. This update reflects our ongoing commitment to building a more open computing platform for the metaverse, Meta Horizon OS. All your favorite features remain, with more enhancements on the horizon.

Navigator
Navigator update for November 21, 2025:
We’re continuing to test our new UI. As of November 21 we are reverting back to our previous UI experience for the majority of users in PTC. You’re still able to opt-in to accessing Navigator by going to Settings and selecting the Experimental section.
New ways to access your apps and quick actions
We’re excited to share an updated version of the Navigator, a key feature of Meta Horizon OS. Navigator brings your apps, worlds, friends, controls, and more together in one easy-to-access place, making it simple to move between everything you need in VR. Your updated Library helps you keep all of your favorite apps within reach with the ability to pin them to the top.
In the Navigator’s Worlds section, you can explore a wide range of fun, social and gaming experiences. Here, you also have Passthrough and Loft which are Home Worlds that belong to you. You can choose one as your default Home to start and return to each time you’re in VR by long pressing on the icon. In the Navigator's People section, you can easily connect with friends. You can message, call, send invites and more.
Managing your system is just as straightforward. You can easily access quick controls to check your battery levels, volume, brightness, camera, casting and more. Manage your avatar, online status, and check notifications. To show or hide your windows, just double press the Meta button on your Touch controller.
To see more options, press and hold an app, person or world to bring up actions like pinning, inviting and more.
Navigator is designed based on everything we’ve learned over the last decade. It is unobtrusive, intuitive, and built from the ground up for the unique needs of spatial computing.
Get started with Navigator
You can enable or disable Navigator at any time by going to Settings and selecting the Experimental section. Once enabled, you can invoke Navigator by pressing the Meta button on your right controller, making it easily accessible whenever you need it.
Rollout details
Navigator started rolling out with v77 as a limited test and with v83 it will be rolled out to the same set of users that already have Navigator. We will be gradually rolling out to more users over the upcoming months.
Mobile app login for Browser
Log into certain websites from your phone by sending a link to your Meta Horizon mobile app. Websites available for v83 include Roblox and Tiktok. This new feature reinvents QR code login for Meta Quest.
Space Setup
Enable representation of more complex architectural elements like multi-height floors, slanted ceilings, and inner walls in Space Setup. This will improve realism of mixed reality experiences by further blending the physical space with virtual content.
Meta Horizon OS version 81
Version 81.0 week of October 6, 2025
These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of October 6, 2025 and will be pushed to Meta Quest 3, 3S, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets.
Horizon Central
Over the past few weeks, you may have noticed incremental rollouts of new experiences across VR and mobile. With v81, we’re excited to announce some new experiences that will make your time in Horizon even more fun.
- New updates to Immersive Home: With v81 release, we are excited to introduce a new Immersive Home, which will offer the ability to customize this space by pinning your favorite windowed apps and by changing different scenery options. Unfortunately, to provide these new features, the previous Home Environment and skyboxes are no longer available. This decision ensures we can continue to make the Immersive Home experience more expansive, interactive and customizable going forward in a sustainable way.
- New update to Passthrough: For those times when you want to stay grounded in your physical space, we’re providing new features for the Passthrough Home experience. This includes AppPinning, where you can pin your favorite windowed apps in Passthrough. Just open the app while in Passthrough, position it in a convenient location and use the “Pin” option on the app’s control bar. In addition, you can for the first time place objects in Passthrough starting with the Avatar Mirror to check out your look and the portal to Horizon Central for convenient access.
- A new Horizon Central: This includes the launch of an updated version of Horizon Central, a completely new experience replacing the previous world you may know. It features higher concurrency (120+ people), faster travel, and a larger, more detailed space. In addition, Central will feature a store where you can buy digital items for your avatar and an event arena to attend your favorite concerts, comedy shows, and NBA games.
- Events: A new immersive and realistic events space, where you’ll get the best seat in the house, whether you're joining from across the street or across the globe. The Horizon Arena brings you closer to the action and your favorite artists, comedians and sports team for truly personal and unforgettable events.
Pair with Mixed Reality Link
Remote Desktop pairing with Mixed Reality Link is now available by default. Experience a new level of performance using your desktop in VR.
Get started by installing Mixed Reality Link on your Windows 11 PC, and then simply look at your Keyboard and tap the “Pair” button to get started. Mixed Reality Link will also be available with new Windows 11 PCs in the coming months.
Improved VR Discovery in Horizon Feed
We are reimagining the Horizon Feed in VR to increase the number of titles it can promote, help customers differentiate between apps and worlds, drive social engagement and increase the visibility of personalized recommendations. With the updated design, users are dropped into a singular view where they can find and join friends, “Jump back in” to experiences and discover new titles. Horizon Feed already makes personalized content recommendations, but with this change we can highlight a larger volume of recommendations in several visually distinct ways. The top of Horizon Feed will also show a large spotlight carousel of promoted apps and worlds.
See your physical surroundings when in Immersive Full Passthrough
When you’re in an immersive experience (for example; Beat Saber) you can clear your view, to stay aware of your environment, by clicking “See physical surroundings” in Quick settings, double tapping on the side of your headset, or clicking the Action Button on Quest 3s. You can resume your immersive experience again, whenever you’re ready.
QuickPlay
This feature was mistakenly included in the v81 release notes and has not yet begun rolling out. We’re still working on it and will update the community once the rollout begins.
Pin Windows to Worlds
You can now pin windows to specific locations in MR and VR Home through the control bar pin. This allows you to set up specific apps that won’t follow you around, allowing for customization of your environment and locking in your preferred multitasking setup.
Worlds Safety System
World Safety System prompts users to use an existing nearby boundary or create a new one that is appropriate for their experience.
Additional Windows
You can now open more app windows concurrently, allowing you to use up to 12 apps at once.
Photo and Video Shareable Links
From the Meta Horizon mobile app, you can now easily create shareable links for the photos and videos you’ve captured in Meta Quest, providing a fast and convenient way to share your VR moments without the need to download, send large media files, or eat up storage on your phone.
To create a shareable link, open the Gallery in your Meta Horizon mobile app, select the photo or video you want to share, tap Share, and then tap Create link. Share your photo and video links with friends to show off your skills or fun moments in VR.
Welcome Screen
We've improved the user switcher, a primary interaction point upon device startup, with a refreshed look and feel. You can now add new accounts directly from this screen, eliminating the need to navigate through settings to the profile screen.
Universal Resize and Rescale
We've enhanced display management for both 2D and volumetric augments with the introduction of "rescale" and "ratio locking" functionalities.
- Rescale: This feature allows you to continuously enlarge applications without increasing the pixel allocation. Previously, enlarging applications would change the pixels afforded to them, requiring content updates. Rescale now takes over from application resize constraints, providing a smoother user experience. Both "resize" and "rescale" will respond to the same user input.
- Ratio Locking: You can now lock the aspect ratios of their displays. This allows for better alignment with common content aspect ratios, optimizing the experience for entertainment use cases.
New Updates to Horizon Store and Search Filtering Options
We’ve updated the names and values within our filters on the Horizon Store and in search to offer more relevant options that we believe will make it easier to sort through the catalog. We’ve renamed Game Mode as Number of Players, Controller as Controller Compatibility, Player Mode as Play Area, and we’ve added and removed values within these filters. Keep in mind that more values will be added over time as more content is launched on the platform.
Version 81.0 Public Test Channel (PTC) week of August 25, 2025
These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of August 25, 2025 and will be pushed to people who are enrolled in the Public Test Channel.
New updates to Immersive Home
With the v81 release, we're excited to introduce new updates to the way you experience home in Meta Horizon. Immersive Home gets a visual refresh with new scenery that’s easily accessible by pressing the left menu button. However, with this update, you will no longer have access to their previous home environments due to incompatibility with the enhanced functionality of v81, specifically, the larger Immersive Home footprint with more areas you can navigate, interact with, and customize.
New Horizon Central
The new Horizon Central brings a completely new experience. It offers higher concurrency, faster travel, and a larger, more detailed environment. Additionally, Horizon Central now features a store where you can discover and try-on clothing from our top creators , as well as a new Arena to enjoy concerts, comedy shows, and NBA games.
A new Arena
A new immersive and realistic events space, where you’ll get the best seat in the house, whether you're joining from across the street or across the globe. The Horizon Arena brings you closer to the action and your favorite artists, comedians and sports team for truly personal and unforgettable events.
New updates to Passthrough
We’re introducing new features for the Passthrough Home experience. One key feature is App Pinning, which lets you pin your favorite windowed apps directly in Passthrough. Simply open the app while in Passthrough, position it where it’s most convenient, and select the “Pin” option on the app’s control bar. Additionally, for the first time, you can place objects in Passthrough which are accessible from the menu button on the left controller. We’re starting with the Avatar Mirror to check your look and the portal to Horizon Central for easy access.
Navigator update
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the experience, starting with v81, we’re making the Universal Menu the default navigation for most people to keep things simple and familiar. While we continue to experiment and improve Navigator, it’s still available! You can turn it on anytime in the advanced settings.
Improved Meta AI Logic
We’ve updated how Meta AI navigates within Horizon OS so that it is more accurate and is better able to guess what you want it to do. For example, when you say “It’s too loud”, Meta AI will turn down the volume, and you can ask it to “go back” if you prefer the previous volume. Meta AI is also better at constructing browser URLs, so you can ask it to open specific pages on websites, like “search for AA batteries on Amazon”, or “open the imdb page for Chris Hemsworth”. You can enable Meta AI by going to Settings > Advanced and turning on Meta AI to try out these improvements.
This marks the broader evolution of Horizon OS, with many more exciting developments planned for the future.
Meta Horizon OS version 79
Version 79.0 week of 21 July 2025
These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of 21 July 2025 and will be pushed to Meta Quest 3, 3S, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets.
Adaptive lighting
Adaptive lighting is a new feature that enables precise tuning of VR panels to blend with pass-through to improve perceptual comfort. This ensures that the colour and brightness of the VR panels align naturally with the surroundings, creating a visually harmonious and comfortable experience. This helps make graphics feel like a natural part of the real world.
File app updates
We improved files app navigation, allowing you to search for files by name. We've also made updates to the files tabs to be more intuitive. You'll also be able to access more file types by previewing PDF files and opening files with third party apps.

Navigator
Introducing Navigator: A new way to access your apps and quick actions
We're excited to begin testing Navigator, a key feature of Meta Horizon OS that serves as a centralised hub for your apps, quick actions and system functions. As part of our work to develop a fully spatial operating system designed around people, Navigator gives you convenient access to your recently used applications, with the added ability to pin up to ten items in your library for quick access and seamless task resumption. This makes it easier to multitask in headset and connect with the people and things you care about most.
You can bring up Navigator without breaking your layout or interrupting your flow. Navigator makes it easier to access system-level controls and then quickly return to what you were doing in headset.
We designed Navigator based on everything we've learned over the last decade. It's unobtrusive, intuitive and built from the ground up for the unique needs of spatial computing.
Getting started with Navigator
You can invoke Navigator by pressing the Meta button, making it easily accessible whenever you need it.
Rollout details
Navigator will start to be rolled out as a limited test to some people on our Public Test Channel (PTC) with v77 and is expected to be rolled out gradually to all users over the next few months. This is just the beginning of a broader evolution of Horizon OS. We've got much more planned for the future of spatial computing.
Visit the Help Centre to learn more about the Navigator.
Testing 3D Instagram photos on Quest
Starting today, we're running a test of 3D photos on some people's Instagram feeds on Meta Quest. Thanks to our AI view synthesis algorithms, we can transform the existing photos that show up in Instagram feed pixel by pixel – no fancy 3D cameras required. That means flat photos that weren't originally captured in 3D will automatically be converted into an immersive format that gives 2D images a sense of depth when you view them on Quest.
While this is just a test to start, our goal is to continue improving the way people connect on Quest, and we're excited to get this new feature out in the wild so we can learn more about what works and what doesn't. Click here to learn more.
Horizon for PC
We have brought together Meta Quest Link, casting and remote desktop into a single app on your PC. Learn more about Horizon for PC.
Turn spatial audio on or off
You can now decide which apps and panels use spatial audio. To manage your spatial audio settings, open the Audio menu in Settings on your Meta Quest.
Move with you windows
You can now select windows that follow you around as you move. This update removes the need for you to constantly reset your view each time you move around the room. At this time, you can only move with one window at a time.
Bluetooth LE audio
Bluetooth devices that support low-energy (LE) audio are now supported on Meta Horizon as an experimental feature. This experimental LEA audio feature must be turned on in the Bluetooth settings of your Meta Quest before you are able to use it.
Bluetooth (LE) audio is a relatively new technology and even though it is currently supported by a handful of headphone manufacturers, the implementation can vary across different headphone brands. This variability can lead to diverse and non-standard user experiences across different apps, including instances where audio quality may be compromised when LE audio mode is enabled.
Text to speech
Text to speech is an accessibility feature which allows you to hear text spoken out loud by hovering over text on the screen. Currently, it is only compatible with certain menus and app surfaces.
Changes to name tag customisation
We are making some changes to name tag customisation options and will be removing name tag frames. You can still customise your name tag with stickers.
New button combination for Meta AI
People that use Meta AI have a new button shortcut to reduce accidental activations. Now you can press the Meta button and then the grip button to activate Meta AI, similar to how you might use Meta and the trigger button to take a screenshot. Meta AI is an optional feature that you can turn on in advanced settings.

Improved 2D app management
Minimised 2D applications are now shown above the universal menu, making it easy to see which applications are still open. Select a minimised application to bring it back into view.
Seamless multitasking
Seamless multitasking is being rolled out gradually for global availability. Multitask more effectively by keeping the universal menu and up to three windows open while focusing on immersive experiences. This can be used to look up information, watch videos or chat with friends while staying engaged with your immersive games and apps.
Secondary users in Meta Horizon app
Secondary users can now connect to the Meta Horizon mobile app. For Quest owners with multiple profiles on their headset, this means that the secondary profiles can take full advantage of mobile app features such as casting and viewing battery or controller status. This update is especially helpful for parents whose child or teen is a secondary user and they'd like to have their child cast to a mobile phone.
Mirroring to external displays
It is now possible for Quest 3 headsets to cast/mirror directly to external displays with high resolution and low latency. To get started, just connect your Quest 3 and external display using a USB C cable that supports Display Port Alt Mode. This supports streaming of video only.
Meta Quest Link app improvements
The Meta Quest Link app now includes system tray support, giving quick access to device status and quick actions while Meta Quest Link is running in the background.
Browser shortcuts in Library
Easily access your favourite websites by adding a shortcut to your Library. To add a shortcut, go to your favourite website in Browser, select the menu icon at the top right and select Add this page to your library. Now you can launch that website directly from your library.
Automatically adjust microphone and game audio balance
This setting uses a real-time algorithm to provide a better sounding balance between the microphone and game audio. When you choose to include the microphone in your video recordings, this new feature will result in hearing your microphone more clearly.
You have the option to turn this off and set manual levels for your relative microphone and game audio levels.
Travel detection
If your device detects that your experience would be enhanced by turning on travel mode, you'll be prompted to do so through the existing tracking dialogues.
Night display update
Night display has been updated to improve the consistency of colour balance, white point and warmth in pass-through experiences. To enable night display, go to Quick settings and select Night display.
Spatial audio for 2D windows
Enabled spatial audio in 2D calling applications such as WhatsApp and the People app. Spatial audio allows audio from selected windows to sound like it is coming from the position of the window in your physical space.
Improved crash reporting
A new dialogue will let you know when an app has crashed. You have the option to report the problem to expedite the fix.
Casting changes
For those who wish to share the fun of Meta Quest with their friends and family, we have significantly improved the reliability of our casting options. To get started casting, select Cast in the quick settings menu.
Improved multi-room space setup

2024 Meta Quest release notes
Week of 9 December 2024
Meta Quest build 72.0 release notes
These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of 9 December 2024 and will be pushed to Meta Quest 3, 3S, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets.
Gallery app for Horizon OS
With the new Gallery app, you'll be able to more easily view, manage and share your Meta Quest or Meta Horizon Worlds captured media. If you own multiple Quest devices, the Gallery app provides you with access to media that you may have captured across all your devices. It will be even easier to view your spatial or panoramic media uploaded media from the Meta Horizon mobile app with a dedicated immersive viewing experience. The Gallery app will be accessible from your Library or linked from within your Camera app.
Hand tracking updates
We've made hand tracking more stable and responsive when navigating the universal menu and in apps, making it easier to interact with your hands in mixed reality. The cursor is now stabilised as you pinch your fingers together, so making selections should be more accurate. We also improved the responsiveness and stability of drag-and-drop interactions such as dragging a Browser tab into a new window. The cursor should also perform more predictably and naturally when your hands are close to your body. Finally, new cursor visuals should help locating and targeting elements with your hands.
Remote desktop with Windows 11
Meta is partnering with Microsoft to make Quest a natural extension of your Windows 11 PC. Later this month, people can preview easily connecting their Quest to a Windows 11 PC. Once you've done the initial setup, all you'll have to do is look at your Windows 11 PC and you'll be prompted to pair. Learn more to get started.
Facebook app update on Meta Quest
The new Facebook app for Meta Quest is also getting an update this month. With v72, we're adding the ability for you to watch your friends' Stories, as we work to bring the Facebook app for Meta Quest up to parity with its flat-screen counterparts.
Instagram DMs
Spark conversations with friends in your Instagram DMs on Meta Quest.
Captions on calls
We have added the ability for people to turn on live captions with speaker attribution when they are on a call in Meta Quest.
Travel mode update
Travel mode now has an indicator on the universal menu to help you know when travel mode is turned on.
Tracked physical keyboards
We are making improvements to our keyboard tracking for Quest 3 and Quest 3S devices to track more physical keyboards than before. We are moving away from tracking specific keyboard models to a more generalised solution. Additionally, a pass-through cut-out will show the keyboard when you're in the immersive Horizon Home environment, allowing you to work productively in mixed reality. Your virtual hands will be automatically hidden and input ignored when they're close to your physical keyboard, avoiding interruptions from false interactions. Hand and body tracking must be enabled to see the pass-through cut-out appear as you bring your hands close to your keyboard. Additionally, tracked physical keyboards will no longer be supported on Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro. You can enable tracked keyboards by going to Settings, selecting Devices then selecting Keyboards.
Linking improvements from windows
Links from windows are now more consistent and predictable, ensuring smoother and more reliable navigation across your experience.
Boundary improvements
In v72, when booting into VR home, you'll get an automatic stationary boundary. When users enter a VR App, a roomscale boundary is triggered; you won't be prompted to find or create a boundary if one is already set up. Meta Quest will automatically detect and use the boundary set up near you.
Week of 4 November 2024
Meta Quest build 71.0 release notes
These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of 4 November 2024 and will be pushed to Meta Quest 3, 3S, Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 headsets.
Settings update
We've redesigned Settings in Meta Quest to be more clearly organised, making it easier for you to find the settings you need. We've also improved the Search function in case you want to search for specific settings.
Calendar
Calendar can help you keep track of your schedules through integrations with Google and Outlook Calendars, as well as entry points to access Horizon Events and Workrooms Meetings.
Remote desktop in Quick settings
We made it easier to access remote desktop throughout Meta Horizon OS with a new entry point in Quick settings.
Meta Quest Link app updates
You can now do more with the Meta Quest Link app.
Cast from your headset to the Meta Quest Link PC app, a new way for you to share your Meta Quest experience with others.
Use Meta Quest Link to access remote desktop on Quest – meaning you don't need to download the separate Meta Quest Remote Desktop app to access your computer from anywhere on Quest.
Travel mode
We're extending support for travel mode to be used when on a train.
Volume mixer
You can now adjust your call volume, and app and media volume independently from other volume sources. You can find these advanced controls by going to Quick settings, and clicking on the advanced option right next to the master volume. Learn more about volume mixer.
Meta Quest on-device stylus pairing
You can now pair a third-party stylus to your headset without using the mobile app. This feature can be found in the Settings app under Devices.
View app permissions in use
We've added real-time permissions indicators to the universal menu so you know which apps are accessing your device. Learn more about permissions.
Video sharing in Horizon Chats
Send and receive videos with friends and family through Horizon Chats in the Meta Quest app or in VR using your Meta Quest headset. Capture and send videos from your phone's camera roll or from your VR video gallery. Compress videos for smooth playback.
Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Surround
Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Surround will support content utilising three degrees of freedom (DoF) head tracking. This will be supported content on selected websites in Browser and we plan to expand to other service providers soon. Learn more about Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Surround on Meta Quest.
Audio to expression
Audio to expression is a new machine perception and AI capability that derives compelling facial motion and lip sync signals from your microphone input. Unlike earlier versions of Lipsync that only animate the mouth, this capability provides upper face movements including upper cheeks, eyelids and eyebrows to bring full expressivity to your characters. Available as part of the Movement SDK, developers can access audio to expression to provide users with enhanced social presence through more comfortable and expressive characters. Even more impressive, audio to expression does all of this at a fraction of the app CPU load required by Lipsync, freeing more bandwidth for apps to use to make their app more compelling.
In-headset controller pairing
We've enabled an in-headset pairing flow for tracked controllers without needing to use the Meta Horizon mobile app.
Pass-through improvements
We've improved the camera frame rates to align with your display frame rates.
Space setup improvements
You will be able to resume space setup by continuing scanning your existing room with updates to the room layout and furniture. You will no longer need to start a fresh scan to keep the room up to date.
Updated visuals for space setup
You will now see a miniature representation of your scanned environment after completing a scan of the room and when returning to space setup to update the scan.
Week of 5 September 2024

Remove apps from Library
Take care of visual clutter in your library with the ability to completely remove unwanted apps and worlds, including leftover apps that you've already uninstalled. Select "Remove from library" from the app or world's library menu and make it easier to find and access your content.
Bluetooth quick pairing
You can now quickly pair supported Bluetooth devices such as headphones, keyboards, mice and gamepads when they're in pairing mode and near your headset. Turn on [Get nearby device notifications] in your Bluetooth settings to be notified when a nearby device is available for pairing, and select the notification to pair.
Seamless multitasking
You can now multitask more effectively by keeping the universal menu and up to three windows open during immersive experiences. This can be used to look up information, watch videos or chat with friends while staying engaged with your immersive games and apps. Seamless multitasking can be enabled in experimental settings.
Content-adaptive backlight control
Improves contrast and battery life by adjusting the backlight of your headset based on the content you're viewing.
Boundary improvements
Your boundary is more dynamic now with frictionless access to Meta Horizon Home. By automatically placing you into a stationary boundary when you visit your Home, you'll no longer have to repeatedly find or create a roomscale boundary. You'll still be asked to create a roomscale boundary when you open immersive experiences that require them.
Head tracked cursor interaction improvements
Improves the behaviour of the head tracked cursor to stay hidden when it's not wanted, such as watching a film or using 2D apps, and appears when you need it.
Permissions history
You are now able to view the last seven days of sensitive permission access by installed apps through a new panel within your settings.
Privacy settings updates
We are making privacy settings easier to use with Meta Horizon Worlds, and simplifying settings for everyone in a few ways:

We've also added the ability to start or join audio calls between the app and Meta Quest headsets, so you can chat with friends at any time, regardless of which device they're on.

Local multiplayer and boundary recall with Meta Visual Positioning System
Local multiplayer allows multiple VR devices to play in the same physical space in a common immersive environment, while improved boundary detection uses Meta server processing to improve the likelihood of recognising previously established boundaries, reducing the chance that you will be prompted to re-draw your boundary as you move between physical spaces. You can control the sharing of your Active Status on Quest and in Meta Horizon Worlds, where you can also control the sharing of your world location.
Pass-through improvements
Pass-through is the fundamental mixed reality capability that allows users to comfortably view and interact with the physical world while wearing a headset. Today, we are announcing a number of improvements to the Pass-through experience that will be rolled out to all users on Quest 3 with the v64 release.
Improved resolution
We have improved the perceived resolution for Pass-through by optimising the Pass-through pipeline. This makes it easier for users to see finer details and read smaller text in the real world – such as notifications on a smartphone screen.
Improved image quality
We have fine-tuned the camera processing pipeline to improve colour, exposure, contrast and dynamic range in Pass-through. This makes colour Pass-through better match the real world. We have also reduced graininess (aka image noise) in lower light conditions making for an overall more comfortable Pass-through experience in a range of lighting conditions.

We've introduced a Safety Centre within Privacy and safety settings, making it easier to view profile status details, any restrictions added to your profile for code of conduct violations and your reports about others.
Simplified quick actions menu
We've streamlined the default quick actions when using hands. A quick pinch and release now opens the universal menu, and a pinch and hold recentres the headset view.
You can try out the new default quick actions or use the previous version of quick actions with more shortcuts. You can find this feature in Settings under Movement tracking, select Hand tracking, then select the toggle next to Expanded quick actions.
Set up multiple spaces
We've added support to save up to 15 total spaces in space setup. You can now scan, name and experience the magic of mixed reality in more than one room.
To manage your spaces, go to Settings, then Physical space and select Space setup.

Facebook live-streaming
First announced in v56, Facebook live-streaming is now available on Meta Quest, allowing you to live-stream to your Facebook friends from Meta Quest.
Once you've added your Facebook account to the same Accounts Centre as your Meta account, you will be able to live-stream from Quest to Facebook by selecting Camera from the universal menu and then selecting Go live.
YouTube live-streaming and chat
We are introducing a new way for YouTube live-streamers to engage with their community in real time. YouTube streamers can now see their YouTube live chats while fully immersed in VR. YouTube live-streaming requires casting to desktop and using stream companion desktop software, such as OBS.
Note: This feature only works for public live streams and will not work for private or unlisted streams.
Meta Horizon Worlds portal

When you're using Pass-through in Horizon Home and you launch an app that has enabled this feature, you'll continue to see your surroundings while the app loads.
More ways to visit Meta Horizon Worlds
We're making it easier to visit and revisit your favourite worlds. You can now access worlds from the Worlds tab in your App Library.
Safe Browsing enhancements
We've made some enhancements to Safe Browsing on Meta Quest Browser by integrating Meta's secure website database. Safe Browsing currently uses Google Safe Browsing to protect you from deceptive websites, phishing attempts, malware distribution and social engineering attacks. Meta's secure website database provides an additional layer of security to help keep you safe while using Meta Quest Browser.
Boundary improvements
We are introducing cloud computing capabilities that improve your headset's ability to remember more boundaries using point cloud data, so you can spend less time redrawing boundaries.
Quest Pro performance upgrades
As part of our effort to continue bringing improvements to our in-market products, in v60, we are enabling higher clock speeds for Quest Pro CPU and GPU when running MR applications, giving you a smoother MR app experience and a more responsive UI. This update also adds more power for developers to take advantage of for both existing and upcoming apps.
These performance improvements include (when compared to Quest Pro at launch):
- Up to 34% increase in CPU
- Up to 19% increase in GPU when dynamic resolution is turned on
End-to-end encryption for cloud backup
If you have cloud backup turned on, you can now secure your backups with your own pin for end-to-end encryption. You'll need to create an end-to-end encryption PIN, which will let you restore your backups after a factory reset or when you've set up a new device. You can manage cloud backup and end-to-end encryption from Backup in System settings and also from the Meta Quest mobile app.

With assisted space setup, your device can run a quick 3D scan of your environment, creating a simple representation of the surfaces in your room, including walls, tables and other furniture, so you won't have to manually add them into your space.
Assisted space setup will run automatically when you launch an app that uses mixed reality or you can access space setup from Physical space in Settings.

- Note: Air Link is part of v28, but it requires that both your headset and PC run v28 software. This means that we'll be unlocking Air Link once both Quest and PC v28 releases have been rolled out, which will happen soon – but you won't see Air Link just yet, so stay tuned.
120 Hz support
- 120 Hz support is now available on Oculus Quest 2 in an experimental setting. Developers can now send apps that run at 120 Hz, allowing you to experience a higher refresh rate for any app that supports 120 Hz when you enable this in Settings.
- To opt in to this experimental feature, open your universal menu, select Settings, select Experimental features, then select 120 Hz.
- Bear in mind that it's up to the developer to provide support for 120 Hz. While there aren't any apps that support 120 Hz just yet, people who turn on this setting will experience 120 Hz performance in apps that choose to support it in the future.
- This feature may affect battery usage, headset temperature and the visual quality of some system features.

- Tracking Improvements.
- Fixed an issue where in certain environments, some customers experienced tracking loss.
Please note that the Experimental features section includes features that are still being developed, so you may encounter anything from minor issues to app crashes.

Bring your sofa into VR
- We've added the ability to place a virtual sofa on your real sofa to use while you're in VR. After an energetic game of Beat Saber, you can now head over to your real sofa, see it in your virtual space and easily take a seat and catch your breath while you watch Netflix in VR.
- Virtual sofa boundaries are automatically saved and detected so you don't have to add them again each time that you put on your headset.
- We recommend staying seated while using the sofa.
