When cloud backup is turned on, your device's app data, such as app progress or app settings, gets saved to the cloud. This allows you to easily pick up where you left off in a game if you reinstall an app, factory reset your Meta Quest or set up a new Meta Quest.
To keep your cloud backup data safe, your app data is encrypted on the device and remains encrypted on our servers.
Note: While cloud backup is available to all developers, it's up to developers to decide whether to enable this feature for their app and what data is backed up. Certain games or apps may not support cloud backup.
To find which of your downloaded apps are supported by cloud backup, as well as the last backup time and backup size:
To delete your cloud backup using your computer:
If you don't want cloud backup to download and restore previous data when you reinstall an app on your device:
If you want to delete cloud backup data that was restored during installation, you can do so by deleting the local app data on your headset.
To delete your cloud backup using your Meta Quest:
Note: Your cloud backup data will also be deleted when you delete all of your data.
If you have cloud backup turned on, you can choose to secure your backups with end-to-end encryption.
You'll need to create an end-to-end encryption PIN in order to secure your cloud backups with end-to-end encryption. This PIN will let you restore your backups after a factory reset or when you set up a new device.
If you forget your end-to-end encryption PIN and haven't set up a recovery device, you can't access your backups. Meta can't reset your end-to-end encryption PIN or restore your backup for you.
Your end-to-end encryption PIN is different from your Store PIN.
Note: End-to-end encrypted cloud backups are only supported on Meta Quest 2 and later Meta Quest devices.
To turn end-to-end encrypted backup on:
If you turn off end-to-end encrypted backup, you won't need to enter your end-to-end encryption PIN to restore your backups after a factory reset or when you set up a new device.
To turn end-to-end encryption backup off:
You can set up your phone as a recovery device so that you can reset your end-to-end encryption PIN if you forget it or want to change it.
You can reset your end-to-end encryption PIN at any time. If you forget your PIN, you can reset it as long as you have a recovery device set up.
If you forget your end-to-end encryption PIN and haven't set up a recovery device, you can't access your backups. Meta can't reset your end-to-end encryption PIN or restore your backups for you.
Note: If you enter your end-to-end encryption PIN incorrectly ten times in a row, your cloud backups will be deleted. This will remove all cloud app data from your account.
To reset your end-to-end encryption PIN using your headset:
If you set up your phone as a recovery device, you can use the Meta Quest mobile app to reset your end-to-end encryption PIN.
To reset your end-to-end encryption PIN using the Meta Horizon mobile app:
You can now put on your headset and turn on end-to-end encryption with your new end-to-end encryption PIN.
