Manage and troubleshoot your Meta Quest Link setup

If your headset won't connect to your Wi-Fi network, use the RouteThis Helps app to help identify any issues with your network.

Meta Quest Link connects your Meta Quest headset to a Windows computer for PC-based gaming and media experiences. Air Link enables this connection over Wi-Fi.

If you experience issues with your Link setup, follow the troubleshooting steps below. For further assistance, contact Meta Store support.

Common issues and solutions

  • Connection issues: Check your network settings, ensure that your headset and computer are connected to the same network, and restart your router if necessary.
  • Performance issues: Adjust your graphics performance settings, update your graphics drivers and close any unnecessary programs or background applications.
  • Compatibility errors: Ensure that your USB cable is compatible with your headset and computer. Try using a different USB port or cable if necessary.

Additional troubleshooting steps

  1. Restart your headset and computer.
  2. Update your Meta Quest software and drivers.
  3. Disable any firewall or antivirus software that may interfere with your Link connection.
  4. Try using a wired connection instead of Air Link.

Adjust Link graphics performance preferences

Adjusting graphics performance settings can enhance your Meta Quest Link experience. Use the Meta Quest PC app on your computer to make these adjustments.

To adjust graphics performance settings for your headset:

  1. Open the Meta Quest PC app on your computer.
  2. Click Devices on the left-hand side of the app.
  3. Click the Active headset.
  4. Scroll to Graphics preferences.
  5. Adjust your Refresh rate and Render resolution.
  • Refresh rate: Choose from 72 Hz, 80 Hz, 90 Hz or 120 Hz. This setting determines how often your screen updates with new images each second.
  • Render resolution: Adjusts the resolution at which your app or game is rendered. The maximum render resolution is 5408 x 2736.

Increasing refresh rate and render resolution enhances visuals but may reduce performance. Even top GPUs might drop frames at high settings, leading to a less smooth experience. If you encounter performance issues, review the graphics preferences.

Solve performance issues from graphics preferences

Link allows you to fine-tune graphics preferences via the PC desktop app. Generally, increasing display options such as refresh rate and render resolution can negatively affect performance. If your Link connection is choppy, try these steps:

  1. Open the PC app on your computer.
  2. Click Devices on the left, then Meta Quest.
  3. Click Graphics preferences then click Reset to default.
  4. Click Save.

Note: If you've adjusted settings with the Oculus debug tool (e.g. encode bit rate, encode resolution width, pixels per display), changing the graphics settings above can affect performance. Set all numerical values to 0 and restart the desktop app.

Troubleshoot your Air Link connection

If your headset can't connect to Wi-Fi, use the RouteThis Helps app to diagnose network issues. Ensure that the Meta Quest PC app is open and your computer is on the same network as your Meta Quest.

To troubleshoot Link connection:

  1. With your headset on, press the Meta button on your right Touch controller to access the universal menu.
  2. Hover over the clock on the left-hand side of the universal menu. When Quick settings appears, select it.
  3. Select Link.
  4. If your computer isn't listed, toggle Air Link off and then on.
  5. Select your computer, then Troubleshoot.
  6. Review the metric chart for potential connection issues.

If Wi-Fi issues persist, connect directly to your Internet modem or router with an Ethernet cable.

Connection metrics

The connection troubleshooting function in VR uses these metrics to optimise your Air Link connection:

  • Meets requirements: Your setup meets the physical requirements for good streaming.
  • Meets some requirements: Your setup partially meets requirements. Consider configuring your setup to meet all requirements.
  • Missing requirements: Your setup lacks the basic requirements for good streaming. Reconfigure your setup.

Meeting requirements doesn't guarantee optimal performance. Factors such as wireless interference and network congestion can affect gameplay, especially in crowded areas.

Improve connection setup

After troubleshooting in VR, use the chart below to optimise your Air Link connection by addressing areas that meet only some or missing requirements.

Cause of missed requirementsWhy it mattersHow to fix it
Network band (2.4/5 GHz) The 5 GHz band supports faster 80 MHz channels with less interference. Connect to the 5G network. Configure your router to use a specific channel, preferably 80 MHz in the 5 GHz band.
Channel width (e.g. 80 MHz) Wider channels mean faster data transfer. Configure your router to use the 5 GHz band and lock the channel width to 80 MHz if possible.
Ethernet connection Wireless connections can interfere with each other. Connect your PC to the router with an Ethernet cable.
Network latency High latency indicates a suboptimal network setup. Minimise devices between your PC and headset. Consider using a dedicated router for Air Link.
Wi-Fi signal strength Low signal strength affects speed and user experience. Move closer to the router, preferably in the same room with a clear line of sight.

Link not working after updates

If you can't enable Link after a software update, try these troubleshooting tips:

  • If Meta Quest isn't working after updates, log out and then back into the PC software.
  • If the "Would you like to set up your Quest 2?" prompt doesn't appear, log out and then back into the PC software.
  • If Link settings don't appear on your Meta Quest 2, power off the headset and restart it.

Link not working after PC driver update

Issues with the latest AMD driver update are known. If Air Link worked previously, consider rolling back the driver as a temporary fix while we work on a permanent solution.

If problems persist, contact Meta Store Support directly.

Meta Quest link app failing to load

If you're having trouble downloading or installing the Meta Quest Link app, you may lack sufficient disk space. Ensure that you have at least 9 GB available.

Troubleshooting tips:

  • Move large files to an external drive.
  • Delete unwanted large files (e.g. music, videos).
  • Uninstall unused programs or content.
  • Use disk cleanup in Windows to clear space.

Solve known issues with Link

Compatibility known issues

  • Link PTC compatibility: If you're in the Public Test Channel (PTC), Link may not work. Disable PTC access to use Link.
  • Software compatibility: For OBS and XSplit, ensure that your CPU is the video processing device.
  • USB cable compatibility: If using a USB 3.0 cable, ensure that it meets the Meta Quest Link cable requirements.

If a USB 3 cable in a USB 3 port is recognised as USB 2, try these tips:

  • Ensure that USB A to USB C adapters support USB 3.
  • Check adapter orientation if USB 3 is only supported one way.
  • Reseat USB C to USB C cables in different orientations.
  • Ensure that PCI-E card cables are fully inserted.

Issues with the latest AMD driver update are known. If Air Link worked previously, consider rolling back the driver as a temporary fix while we work on a permanent solution. If problem persists contact Meta Store Support directly.
