With 10% of infants born prematurely and 1% requiring intensive intervention, months in NICUs demand constant monitoring and swift decision-making. However, parents are often excluded, leading to long-term trauma—despite evidence that their involvement improves outcomes and reduces anxiety.
Dräger Virtuo XR Babyleo is a VR simulation designed for neonatal intensive care training. Addressing a critical gap in medical education, it blends clinical, technical, and social skills—including compassion and communication. Based on real-life stories and clinical cases, this award-winning, autonomous, hands-on training includes eight chapters for single or dual players, challenging them to care for premature infants in realistic scenarios: making critical decisions, handling emergencies, and involving parents throughout the process.
Immersed in VR, users are guided through monitoring babies with various clinical conditions. They must assess the situation, recognize signs of deterioration, and take appropriate action—while engaging parents: inviting them to touch or sing to the baby, proposing kangaroo care at the right moment, explaining the infant’s condition, and answering their questions.
