Get ready to experience some unusual and powerful places in this set. You will first experience Fossil Falls from the air, a narrow geologic slot found in the Owens Valley of California. Next you will travel to faraway India, witnessing the unsurpassed Mahabodhi Temple, the location of the famed Bodhi tree and birthplace of Buddhism. We then examine 2 central features of the temple, the inner sanctum, and carved relief panels that chart the life of the Buddha. We then move to the open plain of southern New Mexico, looking at some of the 20,000 Native American petroglyphs created there. Back to the west coast, we inhabit the circular Sunset Cliffs sea cave in San Diego, only accessible a few times per year from low tide. We then visit an unusual mine entrance in the Mojave Desert, a magnificent point overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and conclude inspecting 2 special rock art sites in Southern California.
