Once upon a time, the Pookis lived in peaceful harmony with nature—gentle beings, deeply connected to the Tree of Life that held their floating island together. But one day, a sinister thunderstorm anomaly shattered the silence. A powerful bolt of lightning struck the heart of the tree. The crystal, source of all balance, shattered—and with it the island. The island pieces now lie shattered and scattered throughout the world. The Pookis are separated from one another, lost among the rubble. Only you can save them and restore balance to their world.
As part of our third-semester project, we are developing the mixed-reality game FLOAT for Meta Quest 2 and higher.
FLOAT combines immersive hand-tracking controls with an imaginative game world in which the floating islands are inhabited by mystical creatures – the Pooki. The goal is to use intuitive gesture interaction to collect movement data that will support a startup in developing smart prosthetics. The data will be analyzed using AI and translated into usable movement patterns. The project combines innovative game design with social value and demonstrates how playful experiences can contribute to medical research.
The VR puzzle game FLOAT is the result of a collaborative project by Jennifer Bell, Lars Gohde, Emil Judin, Sebastian Dreschmann, Kevin Bruno and Marius Maucher.
