A decent game that quickly frustratesA VR third-person platforming game in which you control Ven the protagonist as if you are a higher power. The game relies on a fixed third person perspective that doesn't pan with the player unless you advance in the level. The camera is rotatable, but it doesn't rotate with the character at a fixed point. You guide Ven through various levels attacking enemies that lack variation. Going from A to B in super long levels isn't enough, as you are also tasked to save all the mini dog things, break all of the boxes along the way and to collect all of the relics, which are essentially little gems scattered around the course and in boxes. Some of them are very well hidden.
I think the game itself shows promise on a genre that isn't typically designed for VR and the third person view is an adequate solution. However, nothing about this game is truly exemplary. The protagonist has voice lines that really only activate when you die and then resurrect. The difficulty of the platforming itself isn't hard at all, with a circle referencing where your character will land and it is extremely easy to accumulate extra lives. The game suddenly spikes in difficulty, not in skill but in sheer diminishing controls.
The truth about this game is that if it were released on PC or Console it would be embarrassing to play. Nothing about the game truly uses VR effectively with the exception of the level select screen, which works well but seems to be composed of premade assets. It's unimaginative and uninspiring. And although I am nearly done with the game, nothing makes me excited to go back to it and test my platforming prowess. Especially with a part of the game that is insanely hard and unnecessary: lobbing grenades at rockets that propel when above you. It's awful, and turned me off from finishing the game.
I would exercise caution if the game wasn't on a steep discount and would look for alternatives. See if Moss, Lucky's Tale, Max Mustard or even No More Rainbows tickles your fancy.
