Be My Eyes call a volunteer is currently available in English in supported countries.

With Be My Eyes on AI glasses, those who are blind or low vision can connect to a network of sighted volunteers to help complete their everyday tasks.

We have partnered with the Blinded Veterans Association to create a training guide for blind and low vision users, based on feedback and guidance from BLV users. You can find the guide on the BVA website.

To use AI glasses with Be My Eyes, complete the following steps:

  1. Download and install the Be My Eyes app on your phone.
  2. Log into Be My Eyes as someone needing visual assistance.
  3. Connect Be My Eyes to the Meta AI mobile app following the instructions below.

Use Be My Eyes with multiple AI glasses

If you have multiple glasses paired with the Meta AI app and connected to Be My Eyes, voice commands will be accepted on the device that's most recently had the hinges opened. If you're conducting a call starting from the Be My Eyes app, make sure to start a call first and then open the hinges on the glasses you want to use. During a call, you can switch between glasses by closing the hinges on the first pair and then opening the hinges on the second pair. You should only have hinges open on the glasses you wish to use.

Call a volunteer

Start a call

Once you’ve connected Be My Eyes to the Meta AI mobile app, you can call a sighted volunteer by saying any of the following:

  • “Hey Meta, Be My Eyes”
  • “Hey Meta, call Be My Eyes”
  • “Hey Meta, call a volunteer with Be My Eyes”
  • “Hey Meta, call a volunteer using Be My Eyes”
  • “Hey Meta, open Be My Eyes and call a volunteer”

The sighted volunteer will see what is within the field of view of your AI glasses. The camera is on the left side, so keep that in mind when showing objects to a volunteer.

During a call, double-tap the capture button on your glasses to switch the camera, microphone, and speakers between your glasses and phone.

Volunteers are also not able to initiate the toggle between the phone and glasses cameras. Volunteers are also not able to zoom on the video, but they can take a picture through the Be My Eyes app to enable zooming.

End a call

To end the call, you can either double-tap the touchpad on the right arm of your AI glasses, or use the Be My Eyes interface on your phone. You will hear an end of call notification, which indicates you are no longer using the feature.

Privacy

When you Call a Volunteer, the sighted volunteer only has access to the video you share from your glasses’ camera and microphone during an active call when your glasses are being used.

Set up your device

Note: This video is specific to Ray-Ban Meta glasses, but the Be My Eyes call a volunteer feature is available on all AI glasses.

Q: What are the steps to pair with Bluetooth? Where can I find pairing code information?

A: Select your AI glasses as your device. With your glasses in the case, press and hold the pairing button on the back of the glasses case for 8 seconds to put your glasses in pairing mode. Leave the glasses in the case throughout the pairing process. Once your glasses are detected by the Meta AI mobile app, you will be prompted to connect. To enable this connection, tap Connect.

  • Note: If you receive an error message the Meta AI mobile app can’t find your glasses 10 to 15 seconds after you press the pairing button on the back of the case, tap Yes, I already removed the tab, then tap No case? and follow the instructions. This will work even though you have a case.

  • During pairing, you may be prompted to accept permissions that enable your device to work, such as Bluetooth. During the Bluetooth pairing request, you will be asked to confirm a code. You can skip the code confirmation and select Pair; skipping is optional and safe.

  • In order for the Meta AI mobile app to pair to your glasses, you will be asked to connect your glasses over Wi-Fi. You may also be prompted to update the software on your glasses. If you are asked, accept the update and leave your glasses in the case during the update process.

  • At the end of the pairing process, the Meta AI mobile app will tell you to remove the glasses from their case and put them on. The app will then take you on a tour of the various features of the glasses.

  • Note: If you need to re-pair your glasses, go to your phone’s Bluetooth settings, locate your glasses (RBM xxx) and select “Forget Device”. Place your glasses back in their case and locate the pairing button on the case, a small button half an inch below the USB-C port. You will feel an embossed symbol. Press and hold this button for 5 seconds to put your glasses in pairing mode.

  • Then repeat the pairing process described above.

  • Note: Once pairing is complete, your glasses will act as the audio output device instead of your phone.
