You can connect your Garmin account to the Meta AI mobile app to ask Meta AI questions about your workouts or generate media overlays for your past workouts. You can also connect a Garmin device to your AI glasses for hands-free real-time data access and Autocapture.

Before you begin

Make sure that:

  • The latest versions of the Garmin Connect app and Garmin Connect IQ app are installed on your phone
  • A compatible Garmin device is updated and connected to your phone
  • AI glasses are set up and paired with the Meta AI mobile app
  • AI glasses software and the Meta AI mobile app are updated to the latest versions

How to connect your Garmin account to the Meta AI mobile app

Connecting your Garmin account allows you to ask Meta AI questions about your past workouts on your glasses. You can also view workout summaries and post photos and videos with performance stats from the Meta AI mobile app.

To connect your Garmin account:

  1. From the Meta AI mobile app, tap Glasses in the top right.
  2. Tap Device settings.
    • If you have multiple devices paired with the Meta AI mobile app, swipe left or right to select the device you want to adjust settings for before tapping Device settings.
  3. Tap App connections.
  4. Tap Garmin, then tap Connect Garmin.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to link your Garmin Connect account to the Meta AI mobile app.

How to connect a Garmin device to your AI glasses

You can connect a compatible Garmin device using the Meta AI Data Field from the Connect IQ Store to enable real-time data syncing. You can ask your glasses about your stats in real time, automatically capture footage based on your performance stats with Autocapture, and program audio alerts or a visual indicator with the status LED to notify you when you're on or off your intensity target during a Garmin workout.

To connect a Garmin device:

  1. From the Meta AI mobile app, tap Glasses in the top right.
  2. Tap Device settings.
    • If you have multiple devices paired with the Meta AI mobile app, swipe left or right to select the device you want to adjust settings for before tapping Device settings.
  3. Tap App connections.
  4. Tap Garmin.
  5. Select a device from the list of compatible Garmin devices.
  6. Follow additional instructions on your Garmin device to add the Meta AI Data Field to your Garmin smartwatch or bike computer.
  7. After install is complete, your Garmin device will prompt you to add the data field to your favorite activities. Meta AI works best with any run, bike, hike, ski, or snowboard activity.

Once you're set up, start a Garmin device activity to which you added the data field. You should see a glasses icon as you scroll through the data screens on your device. To test it out, try saying "Hey Meta, how long have I been working out?"

How to get real-time performance insights with Garmin

While you're doing a workout, Meta AI can generate quick insights such as summarizing the workout, providing current workout stats (e.g., pace, heart rate), or aggregate metrics (e.g., averages, min, max). You can also compare your real-time performance with past workouts to understand changes in performance. Meta AI supports walking, hiking, running, biking, skiing, and snowboarding activities.

How to troubleshoot Garmin not connecting to Meta AI

If you're having trouble with your Garmin connecting to Meta AI, try the following:

  1. Ensure that your Garmin device is connected to the Meta AI mobile app.
    • From the Meta AI mobile app, tap Glasses in the top right.
    • Tap Device settings.
      • If you have multiple devices paired with the Meta AI mobile app, swipe left or right to select the device you want to adjust settings for before tapping Device settings.
    • Tap App connections.
    • Tap Garmin.
    • If you don't see that your device is connected, follow the steps to connect a Garmin device to your AI glasses.
  2. Ensure that you have the data field installed on your Garmin device.
    • Go to the Connect IQ store on your Garmin device and confirm that the Meta AI Data Field shows as installed.
  3. Ensure that you have added the data field to your activities of choice.
    • Learn how to add data fields to Garmin activities in the Garmin help center.
  4. If your device is already connected and your data field is correctly installed and added to your activities, make sure that you've started an activity on your Garmin device that has the Meta AI Data Field. It should appear as a glasses icon on your data screens for your activity.
  5. If you see the glasses icon with a slash in the Meta AI Data Field, this means that your device has been set up properly but isn't currently connected. Make sure that you have the Meta AI mobile app open on your phone and your glasses are connected to the app and powered on.
  6. If this doesn't work, try restarting your Garmin, glasses, and the Meta AI mobile app.
  7. If you see that the Meta AI Data Field has the glasses icon without the slash, then you should be able to ask Meta AI about your workout stats.

How to troubleshoot missing Garmin workouts

If you can't see your Garmin workout showing below Workouts on the Devices tab of the Meta AI mobile app:

  1. Make sure that you've saved any active Garmin workouts.
  2. Open the Garmin Connect app on your phone and make sure that your workout is synced from your Garmin device.
  3. Once your workout is synced to Garmin Connect, it will automatically sync to the Meta AI mobile app.
  4. If you don't see it appear, try waiting a minute and then restarting the app.
