About Meta Accounts

Updated:7 weeks ago

Meta Accounts are only available in some locations. Meta Accounts are being rolled out on an individual basis. This means you may be updated on some accounts before others, if you have accounts in different Accounts Centers.

A Meta Account is an account that works on multiple apps and devices, like Facebook, Instagram, Meta Quest and Meta AI. It allows you to easily and safely access Meta Company Products with one set of login credentials, manage account settings in a single place, and use cross-profile experiences.

Meta Accounts must contain at least one profile or device, though you can choose to add multiple to make it easier to manage your experience across Meta apps and devices.

When you have only one profile or device in your Meta Account, you’ll be able to do the following for all of your profiles or devices:

  • Use your account to log in.
  • Use your account to manage settings like password, personal details and ad preferences.
  • Use enhanced security features like passkey, a secure and easy alternative to a password.
  • Use Family Center to supervise your teen on other apps like Instagram, Facebook or Meta Horizon, without needing to create a profile for that app.
  • All profiles and devices can get started on new apps more easily by using your existing Meta Account to create new profiles.

When you have multiple profiles and/or devices in the same Meta Account, you’ll have access to all of the features above, plus you’ll be able to:

  • Use the same login info across apps like Facebook and Instagram.
  • Manage settings across your Meta profiles (on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, Meta Horizon), devices (like Meta Quest and Ray-Ban Meta) and tools (like Meta.com order history and Wit.ai) at the same time.
  • Manage cross-profile experiences like sharing stories across Facebook and Instagram, or syncing your profile picture across your profiles.
  • Switch between your profiles on different apps more easily.

Even if you have multiple profiles and devices in the same Meta Account:

  • Your messages, friends and followers will not change
  • You'll continue to view your Instagram Feed, Facebook Feed and Horizon Feed in different apps
  • There will be no change to your Facebook, Instagram and Meta Horizon posts as well as your Facebook and Instagram reels and stories unless you choose to share them across your profiles

How your Meta Account helps keep you secure across Meta apps and devices:

  • Passkey: Passkeys allow you to easily log into Facebook and other Meta apps and devices, or do things like autofill your payment information.
  • Two-factor authentication: Two-factor authentication is a security feature that helps protect your account and password. Two-factor authentication will apply across all the profiles and devices in the same Meta Account.
  • Login alerts: You’ll get notified if someone logs into your Meta Account on Facebook, Instagram and Meta Horizon.
  • Security Checkup: You can use Meta Security Checkup to review recommended actions to make your account more secure. Security Checkup will help you set up a passkey, review where you’re logged in, create a stronger password and keep your contact info up to date.
  • Advanced Protection: Advanced Protection is an advanced security feature, required for certain accounts.

Managing the profiles and devices in your Meta Account

You can choose which profiles and devices you want to add to the same Meta Account. When you’re first updated to a Meta Account, your Meta Account will only include the profiles and devices that you previously added to the same Accounts Center. You may have added these profiles and devices to the same Accounts Center in a number of ways, such as creating a new Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or Meta Horizon profile, or before sharing posts or stories across profiles.

You don’t have to use the same Meta Account for all your profiles, devices, and tools. You can have multiple Meta Accounts to access and manage different Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta profiles and devices. To choose how your profiles are organized, learn how to manage which profiles and devices are in the same Meta Account.

Note: Not all Meta Account features are available for WhatsApp at this time. Learn more about which features are available if you choose to add WhatsApp to a Meta Account.
