Perform a factory reset on your Meta Portal

If you run into problems with your Meta Portal or want to clear all of your data off your Meta Portal, you can do a factory reset.

After a factory reset, your Meta Portal will return to its factory settings, disconnect accounts and erase:

  • Preferences
  • Local device data
  • Settings

If your screen is frozen or blank, scroll down to find manual-reset instructions.

Factory reset

  1. From Apps, tap Settings .
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down and tap Factory Reset. If prompted, select who's making changes to your Meta Portal settings and log in with your Facebook account.
  4. Tap Reset to complete a factory reset on your Meta Portal.

Meta Portal Go

To reset while your device is turned off:

  1. Remove it from the charging dock and turn off by pressing and holding the power button and select Power off.
  2. Press and hold both the volume down and volume up buttons while powering on Meta Portal Go. Release the power button once you see the countdown screen, and keep the volume down and volume up buttons held for 10 seconds during the countdown.

To reset while your device is turned on:

  1. While your Portal Go is on, press and hold both the Volume Down and power button until a popup window with Factory reset is shown.
  2. Select Factory reset and wait until the process is done.

Meta Portal (Gen 1), Meta Portal, Meta Portal Plus or Meta Portal Mini

  1. Unplug your Meta Portal.
  2. Press and hold both the Volume Down and Volume Up buttons and plug your Meta Portal back in at the same time. Keep holding for 10 seconds.
  3. You will get an on-screen notification that your Meta Portal will factory reset in 10 seconds. Keep holding the volume buttons for the 10 second countdown.

Meta Portal Plus (Gen 1)

  1. Unplug your power and USB cables.
  2. Press and hold the power button and plug your Meta Portal back in at the same time. Keep holding for 10 seconds.
  3. You will get an on-screen notification that your Meta Portal will factory reset in 10 seconds. Keep holding the power button for the 10 second countdown.

After a factory reset

Once your device is reset:

If the reset doesn’t fix your problem, find your Meta Portal’s serial number and customer support.

Resetting your Meta Portal TV will set the device to its original factory settings and will disconnect any accounts, erase any preferences, local device data and or settings you've set on the device.

To perform a factory reset on your Meta Portal TV using the Meta Portal TV remote:

  1. From Home on your Meta Portal TV, select Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Scroll down and select Factory Reset.
  4. Select Reset to complete a factory reset on your Meta Portal.

To manually perform a factory reset on your Meta Portal TV:

  1. Unplug your Meta Portal TV power cord.
  2. Press and hold the button on the side of your Meta Portal TV while plugging your Meta Portal TV power cord back in at the same time. You will see a notification and countdown on your TV screen letting you know that your Meta Portal TV will Factory Reset in 10 seconds. Continue holding the button during countdown.
  3. After your Meta Portal restarts, reset your remote by pressing and holding both the play/pause and volume up buttons for 20 seconds.
  4. Press and hold both the back and play/pause buttons for 10 seconds to pair your remote when setting up your Meta Portal TV after the factory reset.
