Meta AI on Meta Quest is a powerful tool that can help you get information, capture photos and videos, open apps, and control your device with your voice when using Meta Quest. With Meta AI, you can ask general questions and receive audio responses, or take images and ask questions about the contents of the images.
With Meta AI, you can ask a wide range of questions and receive helpful responses. Its functionality includes multiple components that enable 3 different generic types of use cases:
Ask about what you see
“Look and tell me what you see.”
“Look and tell me what kind of dog this is.”
“Look around then write a poem about it.”
Learn and create
“What’s the news today?”
“How many ounces in a cup?”
“Tell me a joke about robots.”
Control your headset hands-free
“Take a photo.”
“Find immersive videos on YouTube.”
“Set up boundary.”
This experimental launch of Meta AI on Meta Quest provides our users an early glimpse of the potential Meta AI can deliver to mixed reality. Over the coming weeks and months we will continue enhancing Meta AI’s quality and features. We look forward to feedback from our customers so we can continue delivering exciting new features and capabilities.
Meta AI on Meta Quest will be available on Quest 2, 3, and Pro headsets in experimental mode, only in the US and Canada. You can invoke Meta AI by:
In the future, you’ll be able to activate Meta AI by using a wake word and we’ll provide an update when the wake word becomes available.
Meta AI with Vision will only be available on Quest Pro and Quest 3. Meta AI with Vision on Quest will be able to see what's visible through the Quest cameras, eg, your physical surroundings. At the time of the experimental release, Meta AI with Vision will not be able to answer questions about virtual objects or experiences you see in your headset (eg: the contents of VR and MR apps). Over time, we’ll increase the complexity and functionality of Meta AI on Quest. While we are starting with recognition of physical surroundings first, we plan to expand this functionality to VR/MR environments in the future. We’ll provide updates as more functionality becomes available.
When you use Meta AI we process data from the conversation with AI on Meta’s servers to respond to your request. This data includes voice recordings, voice transcripts, images, and related data (such as the hardware version of your headset and the length of audio related to your request). After processing, Meta AI will deliver an audio response on your headset, and you will be able to review your request, the image, and the response in your Meta Quest headset. Meta AI can analyze the contents of an image it seems in MR and give you information about that image. For example, if you look at a plant in your room, Meta AI can give you information on what type of plant it is.
All images processed with AI, voice transcripts, and related data are stored and used to improve Meta products and will be used to train, improve, and refine Meta's AI models with help from trained reviewers. Processing with AI includes the contents of your images, like objects and text. This information will be collected, used and retained in accordance with Meta's Privacy Policy. Learn more about how we use information to train our generative AI models.
We may also share data, including images, transcripts, and related data, with trusted third parties to complete your request, in which case the privacy policies of those third parties may also apply. Learn more about how Meta AI works with trusted third parties.
When you allow your voice recordings to be stored, we also use voice recordings to improve Meta products. This includes using machine learning and trained reviewers to process voice recordings to improve, troubleshoot, and train Meta products, and we may share that information with certain third parties for product improvement. We may also share stored data for law enforcement purposes or as otherwise required by law.
Even if voice recording storage is turned off, you can still use Meta AI. When storage of voice recordings is turned off, we will delete all voice recordings immediately after processing, which means you won’t be able to hear, view or delete this information. We also will not use your voice recordings to improve Meta’s products (including Meta AI), and voice recordings will not be reviewed by trained reviewers. Any voice recordings that occurred before you turned off storage will still be stored for up to one year, unless you delete them sooner.
You can view and manage your Meta AI responses from Activity Log located in the Meta AI settings panel on your headset.
To review and manage Meta AI responses on your Meta Quest:
You can tap next to a voice conversation to delete it, or tap Delete all at the top to delete all voice conversations. Deleting a recording and transcript will also delete the data associated with that conversation.
You can view and download stored data from your Meta AI conversations in the View Your Information and Download Your Information tools.
